FYI, Tommy Igoe is doing a clinic at Drum World in Tulsa, Ok sometime in October. Date is not set yet. Though it is over 100 miles away, from what I have read here I can't wait to see it.

Can anyone give me any feedback about Tommy Igoe's Great Hands for a Lifetime DVD in terms of a true beginner?
I'm not a beginner, however, I found 'Great hands for a lifetime' a very good DVD, I'm only 1/4 of a way though actually working with it but I've watched it all and it's really getting my hands working.

Like Swiss Matthias mentioned, he does ramp up the tempo quickly, however he does state that if you can't keep up then stop, work on it and come back. It's not a DVD that you'd work though start to finish in a day or a week.

No, I don't agree. He has absolutely beautiful technique, and is probably one of the best teachers and educators in the world, but I do not believe him to be the best drummer.

Definitely a superb technician, great teacher and awesome drummer. But I wouldn't call
him the best either. If they're ever is a "best".

I just bought his DVD today, so if nothing else, I'm helping him become the richest.

I wouldn't call him "the best in the world" either (actually I wouldn't call anyone that).. but anyway, c'mon!!! The guy is awesome!!! Show some support you guys!

He's an excellent drummer, has very good taste and above all things he's definitely one of the best "dvd teachers" I know.

I say long live Mr. Igoe!

No such thing as the "best drummer".

He is the best "Tommy Igoe", however.

There is no "best drummer in the world". After all, it's not a contest.

If you watch some of Bernhards prior videos you may change your opinion.

Yeah, we actually discussed Igoe and his floating pinky in that thread too.

It was actually intended as a joke....I'd hoped you'd recall that thread and see it that way. Anyways, no harm, no foul.

Judging by what Tommy says at the end of the "great hands" dvd, I don't think he believes in a drummer being the best.

I do beleive though he is one of the most watchable and best dvd teachers though. He always motivates me and makes me want to practise, and always lightens my mood too. It's great to just sit and bash away on the pad while watching "great hands" or the groove essentials dvds. I hope some day I can take some time out and go to New York and study with him for a while, and go to that jazz club he plays at on a Friday to watch the band - I imagine it'd be a great experience (nothing much like that in the UK unfortunately, not a great music scene over here anymore as far as I can see).

Even my non drummer house-mate doesn't mind watching when I have the dvd on.

I love JoJo's secret weapons dvd too, but great hands and groove essentials are the ones I find myself picking up most often right now.

I don't know if he's the best drummer. I don't know if there even is such a thing. The man has some serious chops though and can really groove.

More importantly though, I just love to watch the man play. He has so much positive energy and it transfers over so well. Sometimes when I'm bored I just switch on Groove Essentials and become motivated to practice. Maybe one day I can play medium samba...one day...

Did Tommy Igoe switch to Yamaha? I saw on his website under the "gear" tab, that it said he endorses Yamaha Drums. A potential Steely Dan gig in his future maybe?

Hi
Dear Tommy,

Hope you are fine.

After you arranged the better places for the microphones on your kit, arrange the Gain for gets the Maximum peak(without clip or distortion) of them without attention to the leakages, or you use the Gain for Minimum leakages and use the ambiance sounds in your mix when you record in your studio?

Best Regards,
