Default Ludwig curved spurs ?

I recently matched an orphaned 22x14 blue vistalite kick with my blue 15x12 and 18x16 blue toms. The bass drum has the spur acceptors, but not the curved legs. Can I get this from Ludwig? Are they still the same sized ones on the new vista kits?

Depends. Ludwig made two sizes of the curved spurs. I think the small ones are 5/16" and the big ones are 3/4". You can still get them. Pro Drum in Hollywood has both sizes in stock in a drawer somewhere in the shop! I really like the look of the fat ones. I miss that look since I've sold my Vistas not too long ago.

There are two sizes, 5/16 (used through '70s) and 1/2", still in use.

If you need the 1/2"... note that the older spurs had real points (and could hurt you!) and were a perfect arc. The more recent ones have blunted points (no pain, and no grip either!) and are slightly boomeranged so they can be tough to insert/extend. Here are the two together, you can see the difference in shape:

They both fit the mount, but do yourself a favor and seek the '70s version, they grip and slide much better.

I was off by a quarter!

Yes, the pointed spike is very handy. I use to play in gymnasiums and would just take the rubber tips off and spike it in to the floor. Never went anywhere! Didn't make me popular with the gym-folk, though!

Thanks guys. I had to go to H-wood pro drum to get some triple flanged 12lug snare hoops, but I'm like 9 hours away lol. I'll try and find some 70's ones, but I'd love to get the kick up and running asap. Any idea if cost wise the 70's ones are much more? I can't seem to find any prices online.

You could call them up and order stuff. They ship everywhere. I paid $48 for a pair of 1/2" spurs, no bracket, just the spurs.

Unless a shop has old spurs laying around, and they know the difference from the new ones, Ebay may be your best bet. Prices vary, maybe $30-50 for the pair.

If you want the newer spurs, a pair (with mounts) will run maybe $60-65. The spur itself is part # P-1679-A, but it and the rubber foot (P-669 if you want it) would need to be ordered, it's not a normally stocked item in most shops.
