Default Aquarian cymbal spring

I went to the local drum shop today and got an Aquarian cymbal spring for my Wuhan china (which I recently cracked, but luckily got the warranty on it from MusiciansFriend). I got the red one, not knowing which one to get for a china, and realized it's the wrong one that the package suggests.

Is it really worth it to make a trip back to trade out the springs, or will it make much difference?

I assumed that the medium would rock back and forth easier, but from what I've seen, the yellow ones actually do.

Anyone have an opinion on going back (so it rocks back and forth easier)?

Thanks.

i have the yellow one on my china and don't have the red one at all. yes it rocks forth. you can also try make your own "compression spring" which apparently billy rymer invented for the drum kit. that illlet you figure out on your own but:)

Yeah, you'll want the yellow one for your China. The red one isn't rigid enough and your China will flop around all over the place. The yellow one lets it move, but not too much. I've been using a yellow cymbal spring on my Wuhan China for probably 15 years now, and I haven't cracked it yet.

I have a yellow one on my 18" China. I started with the Red, thinking the same thing you did, but when I used it the cymbal would rock way too much. If I needed to hit the cymbal more than once in a bar it would be rocking so much I couldn't play it properly. The Yellow one is the way to go, I have been using it for a while now and love it.

I decided to keep the red one, and go back to buy 2 more red ones for my other crashes. I also got a yellow for my 16" Wuhan. I haven't been able to try it out yet, since I cracked it and don't want to crack it any more.

The Musician's Friend warranty program is taking a surprisingly long time.

Yep, Yellow for rides and chinas and reds for crashes and splashes. I love them...set 'em and forget 'em. No problems in over 10+ years of hard service.
