Default does anyone use diplomats anymore?

seems like everyone uses ambassadors or g1's for resonant head. I was at the local Guitar Center the other day, they said they don't even keep them stocked at the store. i would assume its because of the popularity of the 2 ply batters. But what about the ambassador batter people, you'd think many of them would use a diplomat.

I believe in the same weight head top and bottom if we're using single ply heads. So I'd put Ambassadors top and bottom.

I put a Diplomat on a concert snare drum once and I was so happy to play Revel's Bolero with it! Then I broke it when I used it for a rock gig the next week! Thin is good, but it cannot be bashed!

I really don't care for the sound of a 7.5 mil resonant head. I believe the give the toms a slightly higher pitch than a 10 mil head. My Gretsch Renowns came with 7.5 mil resonant heads on all the toms, and they were changed immediately.

Well, GC prolly doesn't keep them in stock because their particular clientele has no use for them. I'm not sure that's a definitive sample.

They are useful as resos to cut sustain. Used to be common for jazz guys to use them as such.

I've used Coated Dips a few times as reso's, but I just like the sound of Coated Ambassadors on top and bottom over any other combination or type of head.

I like using the same film for both sides to get the most out of the drum.

Coated Emp on top, with a Coated Amb on the bottom is a great combo too, but for me the Ambassadors just have the sound I want.

I also like a Black Dot top, with a Clear Dot bottom combo.
