Default swapping heads?

I picked up a snare drum with really old warn out heads, and on my other snare i have pretty new snare heads. Can I swap the heads or will this damage them? One is fiber skin, the other is Ambassador if that means anything.

If you remove any head that has been mounted on a drum and tuned up, it will sound pretty boxy when re-mounted. It can be done, but I would just go get another snare head for the new drum.

I agree, just get a couple of new heads......though, that said, I've certainly pulled heads off one drum and slapped 'em on another with no noticeable deterioration in sound, before.

I have swapped heads with no problem. I took a somewhat used 14 inch tom head and put it on a snare, cranked it up and it sounded fine. If money is an issue and you are not recording anytime soon give it a try. Save some money.

Worth trying, at least, with the batter head. Reso heads are very thin and tend to become formed to the snare beds, which will vary from one snare to the next. So a new one is in order there.
