Default Remo Controlled Sound or Evans G Plus?

I really want a nice, white coated head on my toms because they look so much better than the clears. I realize that the G Plus head doesn't have that white coating but are the coated G Plus any good? I like the way the clears sound.

Also, how would they compare to a Remo Controlled Sound with power dot coated? Or a Powerstroke 3 head coated?

I don't have any shops around here that I can really test the heads with, so I have to order online. I need to make one big bulk order and I want to order the right heads. My friend suggested coated pinstripes.

Looking for a fat, wet, controlled sound. And for the record I do like the way coated heads sound on my kit over clears. Thanks!

You're in luck. Evans just came out with a white-coated G-plus. I find that Evans' "frosty" coating gives a very plasticky sound and little of the warmth of traditional coatings. (They say it's the same but for the pigment, but I trust my ears more than their marketing department.)

BTW, both the CS and PS3 tom heads are muffled--the former with a dot and the latter with a ring. They would sound quite different to your G-pluses.

I'm pretty sure they give you the frosty coating. See if you can contact them and order the traditional coating if you want that 20% off...

What do you guys think between the Remo Vintage A and the Evans EC2 SST?

MF doesn't list the white coated version. Unfortunately, Evans has a habit of listing products that aren't in the stores yet.

The Vintage A is a 2-ply head with 7.5 and 3mil films, while the EC2 has 2 7mil plies and a control ring. Also, I believe the Vintage A is only available in a coated version. The EC2 can be had in clear and the frosty coating.

The Vintage As sound a little brighter and a little more open. The EC2s are darker and have less high-frequency ring.

Unless you are sold on Evans, the Coated Pinstripes would get the sound you described.
