I quite like the Remo Emperor Clears as my Batter and Remo Ambassador Coated on the Resonant. Gives quite a warm tone :)

I have no idea what "the best" head combination is, as I'm not convinced a "best" actually exists. I can only tell you what I like. Personally, I'm partial to coated Emperors over snare side Ambassadors for snares. Coated or clear Emperors over clear Ambassadors for the toms. And PS3's as batter and reso on the kick.

For me, and my set, Evans coated G2 over Evans clear G1 on the toms.

On the snare its a Hazy 300, topped by a Genera HD Dry.

Toms = G2's over G1's, very, very happy, but I'm about to experiment with G+'s as resos.
14" piccolo snare = power centre reverse dot over hazy 300.
13" stave snare = genera HD over hazy 300.

All Remos:

Snare gets a Renaissance Emperor over a clear Ambassador.

Toms get Black Suede Emperors over clear Ambassadors, maybe pinstripes for genres that prefer less ring.

Bass drum gets a Powerstroke 3 over... Whatever.

EC2 / EC Reso for recording/some live situations
Remo Ambassadors / Stock DW Resos for everything else.
Looking to also try G-Plus/Genera Resonants and see how that goes.

Snare: Power Center Reverse Dot / Glass 500
Piccolo Snare: G1 / Stock PDP Bottom (looking to switch to Hazy 200 soon)

Kick - EQ4/PS3 (soon to be switched to EQ3)

no such thing as the best. a good middle ground would be clear emperors over clear ambassadors for toms ( g2 over g1 if you prefer) and coated ambassador over ambassador hazy (g1 over hazy 300) for snare
