Default Drum Recording Equipment?

I've been thinking about getting a multi-track recorder so I can start recording and sending tracks to my friend for a while now. I've been on ebay and found this really good looking Zoom R16 multi track recorder for $500 AU. I was hoping to get some opinions on it and/or other recorders.

I'm also looking for suggestions on good drum mics. I'll be willing to pay anything up to $1500 AU for the recorder and mics. I'm playing Progressive/Experimental Rock and Metal. I'm really into some Jazz and Blues aswell. I'd love to get something that will give me a good sound no matter what I'm recording.

So yea, I'd love a few opinions and suggestions on what to do (:
