Default Aquarian Response 2 as batter, what as resonant?

What do you recommend? Right now I'm using used Evans EMAD heads.

Aquarian Classic Clears are rather versitile reso head. I have mine with coated Super 2s and love them.

I use Response 2's as batter heads on my toms, and classic clears for the resonant.

If I choose to go back to the EMADS for my batter heads, do you think it'd be just as fine, or do you think mixing brands not really a good idea?

There's no problem mixing brands of heads. In fact, I've heard many say that Remo Coated Ambassadors over Aquarian Classic Clear is a dream combo...

I use Classic Clears as resonants under my Response 2s. The only exception is on my floor tom. It used to ring a little too much so I experimented with using the Focus-X head as a resonant there instead of loading up on the moongel. It actually worked; it tamed the sustain to exactly where I want it. This may not work on every tom, maybe I just got lucky. At any rate, it should show that you can use just about any head as a resonant. Aquarian 'recommends' the Classic Clear as a resonant on most toms but you could use the Hi-Frequency heads if you like a brighter sound or you could get a little warmer sound by trying a Texture Coated head.
A few threads on here seem to indicate using a 2-ply head as a resonant is becoming popular. Slap a Response 2 on the other side of your toms and see if you like the sound.
