Default Where is the best city for me?

Quite a " done to death" question, but....
I am thinking of going to college where i live now, but i may do the two year course. After two years you get automatic acceptance to berklee college in boston. But there is a big financial question, and i don't want to take just the plain four course here, because i don't want to stay here for that long! So if i do the 2 year course and don't get a scholarship to berklee, well i can't go, too expensive. So where would be the best place to try and find some roots? Very broad question, i know. I guess the main area would be America, because i don't really like England too much ( if anyone knows any good european cities, shoot!).

I want to be a musician, and would play anything to get the rent paid you know? But i'm taking jojo mayer's advice seriously here, " the only way to make it in this industry today is to follow your passion, don't compramise, if you like jazz, then go for jazz etc". I love jazz and the music, but also REALLY love funky new orleans feel music and hip hop, also don't mind lain, afro stuff. Realy the more adventerous types of music, like it but wouldn't prefer to be playing rock every night. The smart thing would be to join up with a college, but it costs SO much for an outsider to get in! Any help?

That's what I love about this vast community of brothers & sisters from far reaches of the globe. We all have words that sometimes don't make sense to eachother. haha

Gotta love it!

My 2 cents:

Unless you do get into Berklee, look to Sweeden, Germany, and other points in Europe.

All the greatest music festivals are in Europe. A lot of bands that can't do squat in the US are doing well in Europe. From where I stand, it seems music fans are much more open minded over seas about different styles.

But, as they say, the grass is always greener somewhere else.

The best city? That sounds a bit subjective, fancy but nevermind. If you want to study the numbers, notes, letters and just pure "technique" stay in Europe. If you want to get the "rhythm and taste" move to Louisiana/New Orleans, Central America, South America, The Caribbean islands and Africa.

By the way, our drummer/colleague - Mattsmith - is doing very well in Romania, East Europe.

Good luck in your endeavour!

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, the grass is always greener, but there is pretty much barron turf where I am now so work that out! I think the big problem with going to another european city is the language barrier. Most speak english, but it's not like everyone in that region will speak it. Ya, matt seems to be doing fairly well, but again, hes travelling quite a bit.

I thought it might be shot because I have actually heard that the music scene is places like London is very good, but I just don't realy want to move there. The european cities that would spring to mind would be Paris, Vienna?, Zurich, Amsterdam. But then again, I will be around 21 if i move, and I won't want to be going to a sleepy city, would prefer an alive one such as New York or Paris. Anyone know about Paris? I won't ask about New York because that topic has been done to bits!
