Default 24k Gold HW Lovers - Here's my baby...

Not really new here, but I don't believe I've posted on this particular forum before. So I'll start off my first post by showing off my newest drum kit.

I've been a 'Yamaha guy' for the past 20+ years, and last year when I decided to have my "Dream Kit" made for me, I went out and sampled all the major manufacturer's offerings. I was VERY surprised after all my research, to realize that Pearl was the way to go (for ME). I've never been a Pearl lover, but after seeing the quality in their Reference line, the customization possibilities in their Masterworks line, and their willingness to work with me on the custom nature of my kit - they won me over completely. I still have other kits that I love, and those manufacturers continue to make excellent gear, as well. But my new Pearl is everything I ever wanted in a drum kit. I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I do. :o)

2009 Pearl Reference / Masterworks in Wine Red finish with 24K Gold Hardware (drums and stands).

14x5.5 Snare ***Masterworks 10-ply 2Birch/6Maple/2Birch
22x18 Kick (Reference)
22x18 Kick (Ref)
16x16 Floor Tom (Ref)
14x14 Floor Tom (Ref)
12x8 Rack Tom (Ref)
10x8 Rack Tom (Ref)
8x8 Rack Tom (Ref)
6x7 Rack Tom ***Masterworks in Reference specs. This is the first ever 6" hybrid shell (maple/birch) drum manufactured by Pearl. It came with Pearl's SuperHoop II's, but I've placed diecast hoops on it. After seeing mine, I know a few people that also have ordered one for themselves...including a Pearl endorsed artist***

Drum Rack is an older Pearl DR-110. It also has an upper tier that I haven't used with this setup.

I have actual full stands in all 24K gold, should I ever decide to go rackless. For now, though, I prefer the clean look of the rack.

All hardware/stands are Pearl, except for DW 9000 series pedals, HiHats, and Remote HiHats.

Thanks, everybody, for such nice comments. :o)

I'm pretty sure the cymbals here, are as follows:

22" Paragon Ride
18" AA Metal-X Crash
16" AA Metal-X Crash
16" AAX Dark Crash
14" AAX-plosion Crash
18" AAX China
14" AA Rock HiHats (main)
14" AAX Stage HiHats (remote)
10" AAX Splash
10" AA Splash
8" AAX Splash

And here's one more angle...

LOL...I have no idea what your kit might be, but I'm perfectly happy with my new baby. ;-) ***EDIT: You have quite a nice little Gretsch there...but I still won't trade. ;-) ***

I actually used to play with a few jazz ensembles in high school and my early adulthood (the late-80's thru mid-90's). My roots, though, are in 70's progressive rock (Rush, Yes, Kansas, Yes, Styx, etc.). Fun stuff. But I guess it's fair to say that I dabble in just about everything these days. :o)

Thats wild!
So are there referance floor drums and all masterworks rack toms? Nice mix.
I'm surprised how much I like the superhoops mixed with the die casts. I think pearl needs to step up and produce OPTA's for smaller diameter drums. With two diameter OPTA's they would have all the bases covered. And the tiny tom's are only getting more popular I think. One size for 6 to 10 and another for the rest would work.
I have to ask what the roland hat pedal is doing there. I find mine to be more suited to driving nails then controlling hats. I have it tweaked so it works somewhat I suppose.
But holy crap man that kit belongs in a museum. It's that beautifull.

Thanks, Jim.

Pearl does actually offer Optimounts for smaller toms - my 6" is mounted via an Optimount. Pearl doesn't offer 6" diecast hoops - nobody does - but I found some after tireless searching and had them 24K gold plated, and then put them on my 6". I do prefer the Super Hoops in that tom, though. But now I have both types of hoops, so I can choose to match them with the rest of the kit if I want.

All my drums are Reference series, except for the 6" tom and my snare (which are both Masterworks).

Thanks again, for the nice comments! :o)

Wow, I thought my DWs in Ebony satin with gold hardware was the most blinging kit on the forum... I've just been upstaged. Awesome looking set man, loving the red against the gold, and nice to see you going the extra mile and getting all gold hardware as well!

Beauty of a kit. Are the floor toms made of different wood or does it just appear that way in the photos?

All Reference floor toms are made with plies of maple and mohogany. This gives them major low end BOOM! ;-) The Reference rack toms are all made with plies of maple and birch. This offers the combination of nice, full body with a bit of additional projection and attack.

The side snare I use is a 14x5.5 Yamaha Maple Custom. Good eye! :o)

Regarding the gold record. I didn't notice it when I took the picture. It's been on my wall for years, now, and I just don't pay much attention to it. It is not a RIAA certified record, as the release was over seas - not here in America. This is a token directly from the major label folks (and possibly our management company - I really don't know the whole story. Lame, but true), back when my band was signed in the 90's. I won't name the band, as it's unimportant now and feels like 5 lifetimes ago, but we had a brief 15 minutes of fame 'back-in-the-day', and I'm now content with it remaining in the past. :o)

Truly a beauty of a kit to behold.

I believe that the gold hardware absolutely compliments the Wine Red finish.

I've seen a few kits with gold hardware, but never a monster set like this. I like your innovative use of pedals on the floor toms. As someone else noted, the gold really complements the red of the drums. Just jaw-dropping.

Wow! best looking Pearl kit I have ever seen!! Great set up too!

There is a black thing on the bottom of the bass drums down by the pedals against the bass drum head with a Remo logo on it. Is that some sort of muffle? I have never seen that before.

Love this kit, my compliments to you drummeric!

I too was not a fan of pearl drums until I got my Masterworks kit, now I am a fan for life. By the way my kit is red with gold hardware also, but mine is MUCH smaller. lol

You sure your not Todd Sucherman, this looks like a kit he would put together.

Thanks for the sweet drum porn.

Another sweet pearl, thanks Todd.

The problem is i'm starting to have serious thoughts about buying a big Masterworks kit. The real problem is a kit like this is kinda hard to hide from my wife.

Gold, its not just for the women anymore!!!

Todd, your kits always look incredible. When Derek originally posted your new kit over on the PDF, I thought I was looking at my own! (with a few obvious exceptions aside ;-) Can't wait to see what the new Masterworks kit you were telling me about (with that new 'little drum') will look like. Your finish combinations are always very classy.

I didn't originally want a gold ICON rack, as I thought it might take too much attention away from the beautiful wine red finish on the drums...but now, I think I'm going to. I have a friend making a clamp for me that will allow connecting the bars in a straight horizontal line. The only reason I don't currently have an ICON, is because I don't like the look of uneven bars across the front, and I also never cared for the look of the connector bar with two rack legs only inches apart. It just becomes too much, and visually overpowers the rest of the kit.

First kit: WOW, that's gorgeous! I wasn't a Pearl fan, like many people, it seems, until I actually bought a Pearl kit, but I think I'm hooked for life. Great quality and fantastic sound! Not to mention, your kit looks completely (pardon the uncouth phrase) jizzworthy! I guess the only thing remaining is totally gold pedals, a la Neil Peart's 9000s. Overkill, yes, but cool nonetheless.

Then Todd comes along and almost one-ups drummeric's kit. Although, I do see some pretty obvious similarities in a couple of the pictures that look a lot like Todd Sucherman's setup...

Awesome!
