Default Chris Cutler

I don't expect anyone to be interested since his music is so left-of-centre (like the thread I tried to start about Don Moye of the rt Ensemble of Chicago to which no one replied).

Still, just as it would be just as lame to not have any threads about Don Moye as this highly original drummer. He's best known for his work with the mind-bending Henry Cow

Here is one of The Cow's more "accessible" numbers from the 1970s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vfpq11-sRVQ but he has since gone on to record over 100 albums and has played with numerous bands, including the Art Bears and Gong.

Jay asked him on AllAboutJazz what drums and cymbals he used but never found out. Pity. Be good to know :)

Fantastic drummer. I really enjoyed his stuff with Henry Cow and Fred Frith's solo work.

Agree Matt. He has a very European style - lots of textures and often not groove-based, like a cross between a free jazz and modern classical drummer.

YouTube recommended this to me and what Chris C played here back in 1972 is pretty special. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0m2UOpp0NE

Very early-Zappa-ish but tastier to my ear. CC's performance was so full of fresh ideas flowing from bar to bar, played with great feel. If you feel like listening to something a bit different and surprising, click the link :)

Just to revive this one ... if you'd like to hear some dizzying interplay between bass and drums ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT-J7eEZxkM

To me he's like the Moonie of, um ... third way prog fusion(?)
