What would be ideal for live situations? I'm thinking of getting some but more of a complete isolation shield (including a cover overhead). Also what recommendation would you make for mic-ing a fully sound isolated kit?

For live a sound shield if you are trying to stop projected volume. Mutes are not a good idea for live because they kill the sound of the drum.

If you are wanting a top cover as well you are looking for an isolation booth. Don't see that as being very portable and if it is your setup and tear down could be a bear.

Firstly: What's the reason you think you need a sound shield?

Secondly why to you want a top cover?
