Default Beaters

I have a DW 4000 double pedal, but hate the beaters. Any suggestions on what kind to replace these with?

I'm using the Puresound Speedball Beaters (felt) with my DW7000 pedal:

They're much lighter than the stock DW beaters, but they also have the little weight that lets you adjust the feel of them if you want something with a little more resistance. They have a bigger striking area than the DW beaters, and they do sound a little bit punchier (if you use the plastic or rubber ones, probably more so). If you're a jazz guy you may not want such a punchy sound, but they're good for me in a rock context.

I would recommend them over the DW beaters, although they are pretty steep at $28 each (I was lucky enough to find 2 of them on craigslist for $20). I've heard the Iron Cobra beaters are similar in performance and a few bucks cheaper, so those might be worth looking into also.

I prefer just a good old medium felt danmar beater. replaced the stock DW beater on my 9000 with one ;-)

Best bet is to try a few and decide for yourself. So many choices, adjustable weight or not on the metal shaft, etc. Everyone has their preferences. Hated the original Tama high-tech looking ones that came with the Tama top-line double peal and so bought some old-school Tama normal beaters and like them.

Seriously, personal preference so try a few and return the one(s) you dislike.

I believe you made a good choice. The Tama Iron Cobra beaters are some of my favorites. I use both the CB90F (felt) and also the DS30 (double sided) beaters. They have a very good weight and balance working well for finesse or harder hitting drummers.
