Default drum mic questions

Looking for some advice on an affordable way to mic a drum kit. Will a nice kick mic, snare mic, and one overhead be adequate? Need direction on what mics would sound the best.
thanks

Default Re: drum mic questions

Kick, snare, overheads will work as long as the kit isn't too wide. Any known kick mic should do the trick. Try and find a D112, Beta 52, or D6 used. SM57s are cheap and great snare mics. If you are using one overhead, it's spendy, but I'd suggest the Rode NT4. Of course, MXL604s or whatever $99 special GC/MF has will work too, just buy two of the cheapies in that event.
