Default head for pearl sensitone snare?

i have a Powerstroke3 on my snare right now. btw its the one that came with the pearl vision vbx

and it sounds okay behind the set.
but i heard my cousin playing it when i was on the otherside of the garage.
and i didnt like it at all!!!
it sounds really bad, but idk how to explain it.

i want to get a new batter head, but i have no idea what to get!!
and also, should i get a reso head for it?

I've never heard a Remo Ambassador sound "bad" on a snare. Only snares that are inherently poor quality and sound bad no matter what you do to them have ever been displeasing to my ear with Ambs on them....

Definitely go with the Coated Ambassador, or the Reverse Dot Controlled Sound one if you want to control a few overtones if the snare is super super ring-y by nature and make the middle feel a bit thicker.

You can't really go wrong with either.

Excellent advice.

This is often a good solution for cheap steel snares, but if the OP is playing out unmiked it's probably too much. You need some ring for the snare to sound loud 'n' lively.

Ambassador's tuning range is so wide that if you wanted a lower, more "snare-y" snare you can leave it tuned rather loose or medium tension, or if you're like me and like really high, poppy snare sounds you can absolutely crank on it and get a great sound out of either head. I've used both, more so the Ambassador and both are excellent.

should i keep stock heads? or ambassadors? dilpmats? or emperors? for reso?
i like my drums to sound good, but not resonant forever!

Emperors are pretty open but not overly so, 2-ply heads will be a bit darker and feel heavier when you hit them compared to single ply heads too.

Tons of people adore the sound of Emperors over Ambassadors, although I haven't personally tried this. I have Evans G Pluses on the resonant side of my toms and I must say they sound amazing.... A bit more sustain but its very warm and pleasing to the ear rather than ringy.
