Default Am I the only one that uses a clear head for my snare batter?

Because I havn't found anyone else that does.

If I didn't mix in so much brush work in most of my gigs I'd put more consideration into trying a clear head out on the snare. I tried using an etched Evans J1 for several months. It was a really nice sounding drumhead. Supposedly they're comparable to clear heads in tonal quality since there's nothing adhered to the surface. Anyway for whatever reason I gravitated back over to coated probably because I really missed and preferred the coating for brushes.

Your not alone though. Tony Williams used a clear Remo CS Black Dot head on his snare for years.

I too use brushes so it's necessary. You don't hear much from your snare using brushes and a clear head. The coated head on the snare drums does much to the it's sound as it would on toms.

You are one of the few my friend... I actually used an Aquarian Performance 2 on my snare at one point. It was clear enough I guess? Aside from the black ring.
