it has given me a lot more room anyways. I put the bass drum closest to the window whereas the throne used to be closest to the window.
it is also easier to get around, because my room is tiny and my kit takes up a lot of room.
when i had my old set-up i had to move the hi- hats out to get behind it.

Here's a recent pic I snapped of my "ambience" lighting.. basically an IKEA 2-lamp wall unit (the kind you might put on the wall to shine down on a large picture hanging) and I just put it on the floor against the wall in front of the kick drum and pointed the lights up at the ceiling... makes you believe you're on stage hehehe. Really cool and I don't have to turn on the annoying ceiling light.
