Default Putting Coated heads as Resos...

Anyone have experience with putting two coated heads on a drum? (i.e. ambassador coated as Batter AND Reso.)

I heard Buddy did it and I've always been totally gay for his snare sound. I also like the almost dead sound of the toms when tuned right heavily muffled... and putting a coated ambassador on both side would probably do this.

The sound will be dark and very muffled. If this is the sound for you, go for it. I prefer a very open sound, but to each their own.

Hey Witchcraftery,

Check out these clips from youtube.

The first is a clip of John bonham's kit and how it was set up for some recording sessions. At times JB used coated Emporers on the batter side and coated Ambassadors on the resonant side.

The second clip is an illustration of how the kit sounds when played.

Coated Ambs work excellent as reso heads.
They will shorten the sustain a bit, and warm up the sound.
With the right tuning you can get a huge sounding drum, ala Bonham. Just use even tension on both heads.
Tuning is the key.
