Default ludwig 5x14 maple snare restoration

this is the ludwig classic butt end that the previous owner put on the drum

crappy snares

the old throw off

here is the snare with heads removed and the old throw off and butt plate removed
I did some good cleaning with a damp just a damp rag and then dryed everything with with a dry rag.

the p-85

p-85 installed

butt plate

butt plate installed.... there is one small hole left from the old butt plate. everything lined up the same! for both throw offs

evans hazy 300 for the snare side

g1 coated for the batter side

puresound custom 20's

snares installed and set up

all finished!

The drum sounds really good it's got a nice sensitive touch and a bright crack. it would be perfect for jazz or a new orleans zydeco/2nd line jazz sound. I never could get this thing to sound good with the marching strainer on it the snares were always stretching and buzzing. now it's restored to it's original intentions. pretty cheap too. i'll probably put the old strainer and butt end on ebay and make back half the money. The shell is in great condition and the bearing edges are still smooth. The wrap is starting to show it's age and pull out and showing some orange peel but other than that it's okay.

Very nice looking re-build. Great choice with the Puresound snares.
