Default What is your beloved cheap/simple pedal?

Tell more about your pedal that is fairly cheap, simple or maybe old and that you would choose over nice DW 9002, SONOR GSP 3, Axis etc. I'm interested in pedals that aren't top line, but you feel that they are suited for you as good as top lines. Tell what's so good about it. In what playing situation the pedal is the most valuable?

Pearl P-100. Hands down. No questions. I play a DW5000, but the P-100 still has a place.

Tama iron cobra is one of the best pedals and its cheap. For a pedal that has a cheap feel but still kicks ass I say pearl eliminator.
I probably like the DW 5000/9000 better in regards to feel and overall build. The only draw back is although its smooth and moves only down (not side to side like elims), it feels "heavy" or somewhat sluggish. Maybe its just the way the pedal was set up before me, but damn felt like my legs were mangled after playing some double kick.

Really? That's atypical behavior from an entry level pedal. Sexual violence against iron cobras needs to be curtailed.

Oh yes, sold my back-up one as I thought I would be happy with my DW9000. Oh, what a bad decision, now want it back...

DW7000 is my lesser pedal of choice. $119 and it's got a big floor plate, springy feel but still solid. I have a fat Danmar felt on it and I play it all the time. Still holding up well.

I decided yesterday to set up a second bass drum for practicing. I spent a half an hour working on my free yamaha pedal. All I had to do was adjust the spring tension. The only way it felt right was to take all the tension off the spring possible. Then I took off that POS marshmallow beater and hooked up an old IC beater I had kicking around. Man, this pedal really flies now. It's not quite as smooth as the cobra and it kind of sucks that the beater hits my foot. It was my choice to have it so loose though and I found if I twist my foot 45* to the left I won't get hit. Sort of like that tap dancing double kick technique except I just turn it and leave it.

This is the pedal I got for free with my dtxpress, also strap drive... I did a silly job in paint editing the beater, just for a rough idea of course.

Second the Ludwig speed king. One of the few pedals on the market that use compressed spring action (premier made a compresion pedal as does Trick Percussion with their detonators and dominators). The compressed spring makes constant pressure against your foot wheter it's going up or down (not the case with stretch spring that gains momentum with each stroke causing the spring to continue on its vector even though the force applied against it changes direction). That constant pressure against your foot at all times gives you that "glued to your foot" feel which allows the action to cycle faster. It allows you to get in those quick duplet and triplet single strokes like John Bonham or Ian Paice

Yeah I'll second that. Pearl makes great pedals.
The P-100 is one of the best (and the cheapest) pedal I've ever owned.

Pearl P-122TW ("Powershifter", twin version), or Tama HP200 ("Iron Cobra Junior"). I own both of these and love them both. The pearl seems to be more adjustable but both are fine pedals. I see no reason whatsoever to "upgrade" to any high-end version of these.
I'm contemplating a duallist though. Mostly because I am too lazy to continue to work on my left foot kick proficiency any longer.
