A tough one. In mi case, all of them are...best and favourite.

Debriefing it:

Black Sabbath / Ozzy Osbourne era:

* 1970 Black Sabbath
* 1970 Paranoid
* 1971 Master Of Reality
* 1972 Volume 4
* 1973 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
* 1975 Sabotage
* 1976 Technical Ecstasy
* 1978 Never Say Die

Black Sabbath / Ronnie James Dio era:

* 1980 Heaven And Hell

By the way, Thanks for bringing Black Sabbath on the subject.

Go with Paranoid, has a lot of passion and dark blues. Then move on...

All The Best,

The first album is awesome especially since it was recorded in one day! How can you argue with N.I.B.(OH YEAH!) or the song Black Sabbath, it still scares me! Haha. You can't really go wrong with any of the Ozzy era albums. They're all good.

"Black Sabbath Vol. 4" # 3 (1972)

"Black Sabbath" # 4 (1970)

"Sabotage" # 5 (1975)

"Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" # 6 (1973)

"Never Say Die" # 7 (1978)

Hey Ian? Uhhh...

I was NOT putting them in order of release date. :-|

I was putting them in order of what I BELIEVE was their best albums of the Ozzy era (1970's Black Sabbath). And just added the release dates next to my choices for reference sake.

Hence, the thread title buddy. BEST (IMO) ;-)

Now YOU...are kindly corrected...sir. :-)

Paranoid for me - my friend gave me the entire discography, yet the only album I've really ever listened to is Paranoid. Incredible album.

All 08 Best Black Sabbath albums, with original line-up: Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Ozzy Osbourne, Bill Ward.

Heaven & Hell album, line-up: Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Ronnie James Dio, Bill Ward.
Bill Ward left the band, and Vinnie Appice was recruited for the tour.

Enjoy it...

There is no other way to set-up Black sabbath.
They weren't nearly as good with Dio.

I agree. Let me tell you something, I liked the overboard line-up on Born Again album: Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Bill Ward.

It was an strong high voice, heavy riff and pounding, also dark.

Hmmm, I don't like it. To me it seems too polished

Obviously! Tony Iommi was seeking for perfection, and having Ian Gillan what else can we expected, by the time.

Cheers,
