Default will rubber washers keep my drums in tune?

i'm having trouble with my drums losing their tune, i tune 'em up nicely but then several days later they are out of tune!

i have 1.3mm hoops ( i believe, playing Yamaha SCB's ), and i do like a lower tone from my toms in particular, so i think the head bolts are just coming loose under the vibration and impact... not sure, will rubber washers reduce the tendancy of the bolts to loosen up over time?

at a loss here guys and hoping for some help...

I've never heard of that but it might be worth a try.

I use www.tightscrew.com and they are the total answer to detuning problems. Not exactly cheap, but not too expensive either and they really do work.

I am sure they would help a lot but if the temperature in the room fluctuates a few degrees either way they are going to change pitch. My drums are are not in a well insulated room and I am constantly tweaking with them a little here and there.

and about the tempurature Nodiggie - my kit is in an unfinished basement only 10' from the furnace - so this might definitley be part of the problem.

The tightscrews look like the answer. Another option would be these.

Not as permanent but are effective.

If you tune low and your tuning is lasting "several days" you're doing pretty well.

Not even tightscrews make tuning permanent, because playing stretches the heads.

Also, if you tune low do not lubricate your tension rods. Please don't ask me how I know this.

True, Tightscrews won't solve it completely. They only keep the tuning bolts from tightening or loosening by themeselves. Head stretching and shell shrinkage and expansion will change the tuning. However, Tightscrews solve the problem about as much as is possible.

thank you kindly for the help guys!

numberonefan, another great idea, thanks for the link! i'm gonna go hunting next week for the screws and the clips - thanks to you and DMC both...

and drumtechdad, you're basically telling me i'm gonna have to get quick at tuning ;-) my kits location, low tuning and (often) heavy hitting are gonna loosen these heads - even with measures taken, ah what the hell - practice makes perfect right?

thanks again guys!
