Default how to record video and audio of playing

What do some of you use to record video and audio of yourself playing. I was thinking about getting a camera so I could post some vids and such. Do you need to have a mixer and mics? Could a decent video camera record the sound decently?

Let me know

Thanks

I tried using my quickcam for video, and presonus firestudio for audio, then mix it together in Premiere. Unfortunately, the computer I've got for recording is a pile of crap and I was only getting 5fps on the video and it only recorded 3 random inputs. I think tho, this would work for youtube posting if I had a better computer.

Before I got proper recording equipment, I tried using a regular computer mic to record my drums, and all I got was a incomprehensible mess, similar to trying to record audio at a concert with a cell phone. Its just too loud. You'd probably run into a similar problem with a regular video camera, unless you had some really good acoustics and/or acoustic dampening in your recording space.

I use my digital camea........would you consider this good quality? http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=...er&view=videos
The darkness has nothing to do with my camera.....I play in a dark basement.

I use Audacity, a free program to record everything.
I plug my mics into a mixer and run the output of the mixer straight into my computer (because I don't have a fancy recording interface).
At the same time I'm playing, I record myself with the camera.
I use Windows Movie Maker to take the audio out of the video and sync the recorded audio.

You might want to use an external microphone to capture your kit's sound. Either plug the mic into the camera's input or record it with another device, combining the audio and video in post production.

razorx: your video quality is good, the audio is a bit loud, but still pretty good for a mic off a digital camera.

I'm using a program called reaper to record my drum audio now, after cubase became too much of a headache with its crashing. Having problems with audio playback, but I dont think its the program, conflicting audio drivers or something.

Yes, if you have a non-linear editor that allows you to mix sound tracks with your video. iMovie 09 can do it, but previous versions can't (to my knowledge).
