Default I'm a new guy, with a Tama!

Hey what's up guys? I've been playing for a little under 2 years now, but don’t let that fool you! Once my website is back up I'll have to post some clips.

I recently purchased this 6-piece vintage blue swingstar at a pawn shop out here for a decent $500 including quite a bit of cymbals and hardware--barely ever used, this kit shines! I added my old hats, ride, crashes, and china to the cymbal arrangement for a mini-massive cymbal rack. Now all I have to do is save my pennies to give my baby some new clothes…err, heads. Mind you, I’m very tight on cash right now, not to mention my beginner to intermediate status, so the cymbals and drums are definitely not pro or anything, but I couldn’t ask for more!

Specs:
18"x 22" kick
9"x 12" tom
10"x 13" tom
14"x14" floor
16"x 16" floor
5-1/2"x 14" snare

Cymbals:
14" Sabian B8 hats (primary)
14" Zildjian ZBT hats (secondary)
20" Zildjian ZBT ride (primary)
20" Pearl ride of some sort (secondary)
18" Wuhan S crash
16" Wuhan S crash
16" Zildjian ZBT crash
18" Wuhan china
18" World Percussion china
12" Wuhan china

I also have a 12" Remo Klong Yaw, 14" Remo Djembe, and a set of tablas among other instruments in my little studio.

Thanks for looking guys!

Cool cymbal selection! Great deal on the set. And it looks like you play open.

hmmmm guitars and a bass or two...what are you, some kind of multi-instrumentalist? you sicken me...lol only messin

diggin the setup man, i envy your second floor tom bigtime, I love that massive sound when you lay into both of the floors at once.

Also plenty of targets with regards your cymbals, I'd say you're spoilt for choice when playing.

That last pic, solarion studios or something, very nice. Kind of a danny carey vibe goin on with the tablas and the background...just a thought.

Looking forward to seeing some of your playing

Hey guys, thanks for all the comments on the kit.

timebandit - Well if my web server wasn't down right now I could enlighten you guys on what Solarian Studios is exactly. I do a lot of work in various arts from music to photography. I did a lot of soundtrack/game scores back in the day, which is where Solarian Studios was basically born--composing music for cooperate and entertainment means. But again, I also do photography, design, some film/animation in 2D and 3D, and digital painting. Once my site is back up, ya'll have to take a peek at my portfolio.

Class A Drummer - hahah, cool, thanks man, that was the result of boredom and a sharpie :P

Deathmetalconga - Thanks dude! Even though they're cheap, I love how everything sounds, and they seem to work together fairly well. In terms of playing open, I do try to, especially seeing how I have a high hat on the side. However, I usually play crossed when using the left hats or ride, but sometimes I'll work on playing open through the entire kit to build my ambidexterity up.

Breadmonkey- HAHAHA! I'm kind of multi-instrumentalist, but just with guitar, drums, keyboard, and some other weird world instruments, heh. Yeah, the two floors KICK ASS! This 6-piece config is so comfortable to me, I really don't need anything else. I'm thinking about getting a Yamaha DD-5 (the 4 pad cheapo 80's deal) so I can add some digital tablas and other crazy ass sounds into the mix though, heh. And yes, that pic is quite Danny Carey-ish, but definitely not the reason why I bought my tablas. He uses them well in a rock setting, but DAMN, those tabla masters are insane!

Welcome on drummerworld dude ! Have fun, learn and enjoy your stay :-)

So we are TAMA Swingstar brother in arm... I do own one too. Your is nice and you had a really great deal the whole kit. The cymbals look good without their logo - the wuhan S crash are decent cymbals (better than my two B8 crashes). The driver pic is awesome, tight & comfy setup.

To see my 8 pieces Swingstar in vintage silver, follow my sig. link.

Ok, my site is finally back online (my host got hacked big time a few days ago). Go to www.Solarian.tk for my music and other art. Mind you, the music you'll hear is not me on drums, most of these tracks were created long before I got my first kit, so almost everything is tracked in Buzz Tracker.

mind_drummer - sweet kit Tama brother! I'd love to have one extra 8 or 10 inch tom like yours, that's a nice config...yeah, i love cymbals without logos

tamadrummer132 - they're ok man, especially considering the price they're pretty decent, but i like the 12" over the larger sizes, seems to have a nicer sound to it

Hey whats up guys and Merry X-mas!

I found a Yamaha DD-5 on eBay recently for $30, so I JUMPED ON THAT! Just got it all hooked up to my computer as a MIDI controller and it simply works great for triggering pretty much any sound I need, even with a dash of varied sensitivity levels. I highly suggest finding one of these if you're looking to add some electronics to your kit and don't want to spend $90+ a pad on top of a module--all you need is MIDI and some decent samples!

Watch out Akira Jimbo!

Ohh yeah, a little update on the specs:

Yamma DD-55 running through Buzz Tracker as a MIDI Controller--the DD-5 crapped out on me.

Cymbals (L to R): Some random Pearl 20" ride, 14" Sabian B8 hats,16" and 18" Wuhan Crashes, 12 and 18" Wuhan chinas, Sabian B8 18" Rock Crash (not pictured), 20" Zildjian ZBT ride, 14" Zildjian ZBT hats, and a 18" World Percussion china

Mostly cheap cymbals, but I simply can't afford the high end bronze and I'm extremely jealous of ya'll that can!!!! j/k :P

And my other love, strings: (also made up of bargain shopping deals, haha)
