Default Genera vs. Emperor X

I've used an Emperor X in the past, but you really don't get that much articulation out of it, especially in the rim shots. I think I'm gonna go with an Evans head this time. I'm a fairly hard hitter, so I'll either get a Genera HD Dry, or Genera HD. Any comments or suggestions would be great.

Also, how's the durability compared to the Emporer X?

Well on the durability part the Emporer X beats the Genera from my personal experience. You just beat the living hell out of that head with your sticks and they just don't want to break. They are like Sabian B8's. HAH

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT get the Emperor X.
They will last forever, but they choke the life out of your snare drum.
You can get a durable head without getting one that's 2 inches thick (exaggeration).
Remo Coated Controlled Sound heads with the power dot are pretty durable, and they don't kill your sound.
Also, what type of music do you play?
Because I purchased the Genera HD Dry, and it was way toooo dry.
If you're playing gospel music, it's great.
Otherwise, it;s just can't be heard through the rest of the mix.

Have you thought about trying G1 or G2? Both are great for snares.

I agree with Budiesel somewhat.
I think the G1 might be a good choice.
The G2 maybe not so much because it's two plies, and 1 ply heads sound better on snares.
I know Evans also makes a snare head with a power dot on the inside.
It's like an EC Reverse Power Dot, or something similar.
Look into those.

I'm not, I totally agree with you.
