Default Hey PDP drummers.. I made myself an 18" floor tom

Hi All,

Out of boredom.. (and creativity) I just completed my 18" floor tom for my PDP CX in Blue Onyx. I found the wrap on JamminSam.com (it's Ludwig's old Vintage Sky Blue Pearl) and ordered the lugs from DW. It's a Keller shell 18 x 16. Now my kit has that bottom end that only more floor toms can give you.

I'll admit that I don't really need the extra sound but it is nice and of course looks cool.

I put a coated Emporer on it because the Ambassador I first put on it ringed too much. I guess bigger drums like thicker heads.

Total cost for this little project was $248.00

$78 for the shell
$82 for the hardware
$20 for the head
$68 for the wrap

Cool huh?

That looks very, very nice! Can we get some close ups of the floortom only? It looks allmost just like the other drums too, good job!

Are your sizes even from 8'' (8, 10, 12, 14 16), or something now? The set up you have now looks very good, man.

I'll take some better pics.. and repost

This set up is with the 22x18 BD. 10, 12, 16 and 18" toms.

When I add the 14" tom, it is to the right of the 12" with the ride raised up a little and the right hand crash and china moved to the right. That gives me 3 up and 2 down.

I pretty much have settled on the 2 up 2 down set up for when I play a larger kit. Otherwise it is a four piece. This setup keeps the same feel as a 4 piece with an extra high tom on the left and of course the extra floor tom on the right.

Click on my sig to my larger set-ups. However, this is what I usually play.

Great job on that 18. I thought of doing the same, but re-wrapping the whole kit.

Well done.

DW does not sell their lugs, however they will sell their PDP lugs. I had to order them through my local Guitar Center.

Dude that looks really good. I think even if you don't play it it just looks cool and if it sounds good, even better.

I'm planning on building a couple of toms then wrapping them in camo fabric to match the rest of my kit.

The 16 came with the 22,10,12,14 & snare shell pack when I bought the kit in 2003.
It was a great deal at the time for $600. A Guitar Center special. I was going to buy it without the 16 for the same price a week earlier and the salesman at GC told me to wait a week and I would get the 16.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Pacific-...45-i1138466.gc

If it is not available from DW, then you will have to try Google and or Ebay and that whole route.

You could make one but I think they sell for $168 new and it would almost cost the same to build it.

Let me know if you need to find my old thread on how to build one (like I did with my 18) and it will give you a good idea what it costs.

I don't really have the time or the money to build one
so I think I'll just wait a while and just get a 16 in and just leave it as is
