Default Smooth White or Coated Resos?

Hey guys, coming atcha with a reso head question.

I'm going to upgrade stock reso heads soon [finally!] and have come to either Smooth White Ambassadors or Coated Ambassadors. I've already got Coated G2's up top, so I don't know if coated would be too much coating, and smooth whites give a nice midway, which I think would be better. Of course, there's a lot of you guys on here with exponential amounts more experience here than I do, so I thought I should run it by y'all.

I'm also replacing my kick reso, which has a [coated] Superkick 3 on the batter, so the same justifications apply. The only other thing is, what reso head should I get? I was thinking PS3, but people seem to either love them or loathe them. I'm looking for massive low end, but with sufficient punch. I just REALLY don't want a dead kick.

Default Re: Smooth White or Coated Resos?

Call me elitist, but I'm one of those guys who swears by coated ambassadors on both sides of toms and kick. That being said, I wouldn't mind trying coated diplomats as resos next.
For the kick, a coated amb is fantastic; there is so much more tone and mid-range warmness, especially if you don't use a port. Not to mention ambs are a heap cheaper then all those pre-muffled and adjustable muffling heads.

My answer; coated ambs both sides of kick. Roll at-shirt up and put it between the posts of your kick pedal and the batter head if you need to muffle it. Put a t-shirt inside the drum and adjust the muffling by tilting the bass drum forward until you have an appropriate amount of reso mufling. Also, tune slightly higher then you normally would with an EMAD/Superkick.
Pure bliss.
