Default What heads have you used on Remo roto toms?

I have clear pinstriped on 10" and 12" roto now. Tuned pretty low, looking for strong melodic quality but not too much overtone. I've wondered what else people have liked and why.

Remo C.S Blackdots are a common head on those.

I ran Pinstripes on my Roto-sets almost exclusive. 10, 12, 14, 16, 18's. Same reason as you, JC. And yes, as WM stated, the infamous "black dot" head is what you normally see on them. It's the stock head, I believe, has been for some 30+ years. I tried Evans red hydraulic heads on my first set of Roto's, back in the day. Thought they would look cool. They did, but they wouldn't hold up to the pressure of the roto. So I went to the Pinstripe.

I had Pinstripes on mine when I had them (the chrome version--wish I still had them).
I'd like to get a set of maybe the 12-14 & 16 actually....

I liked the sound of the Pins on mine.

Black dots sound pretty good too, but they are a little flatter sounding than a Pin to me.

I ve tried the Black Dots, Pins, and Evans Hydraulics on mine. Actually I remember putting a Remo clear Ambassador on the 12" but that was a waste of time. It seems like the 2-ply heads just jive with the way they re made to sound and the tension issues add to it. I like to tune em low, and a single ply head just didnt work. I ve had the best success with good ol Pinstripes, consistently.

Black dots and Pinstripes - I prefer the black dots.
