Default maple sticks are excellent!

so i'am waiting for my kit to arrive (dec.), practicing rudiments on my pathetic 6" pad and i have been messing around with different stick sizes...
i used to play drums 12 years ago as a kid and always used 2B's to rock to Kiss, AC/DC and Metallica - i dont know how i played these monsters!
so i'm kinda settling around 5A i think and i found these beautiful Los Cabos Maples and what a revelation - like slapping away with feathers, they seem practically weightless! - i find i practice much more just because i'm not tired out as quickly : )
so does anybody else like maple? and how do they hold up against cymbals?
thanks and good drumming guys!

For Metallica and AC/DC, I wouldn't recommend sticks that big.
But oh well

As a matter of fact, I wouldn't recommend that size ever.

Maple sicks are fine, but they will tend to break sometimes without warning. I had a pair of SD7s, which are like 5Bs, but one of them just sort of split vertically one day during a performance. I had a pair of SD4s I liked too, but one broke a few weeks ago on the TD-12 set here on campus. I've had some hickory sticks do similar things but they were from Innovative Percussion, Regal Tip, or Zildjian. The Promarks, Vic Firths, and Vaters I've had last for months or years. I guess it's the same problem they were having in major league baseball with the maple bats breaking as well. Maple has a great feel, a soft sound, but doesn't seem to be that dependable.
