Default Where This Week's Paycheck Went...

So, Billy Hyde were having a 'garage sale' (clearing floor/demo/excess stock) on the weekend and I thought I'd pop down for a look, not intending to buy anything much. I spend about half an hour in the shop checking stuff out when this snare drum caught my eye. It was the new Pearl Jimmy DeGrasso signature snare, and if you haven't seen it it's a 5.5 brass snare with gold hardware. I'd seen it in the store before and didn't really give it a second look (mainly because right next to it was a DW brass and a Lugwig Titanium), but this day I was intrigued. I grabbed a snare stand and set it down on it and 'rubbed some rudiments on it'. Even though it needed a tune up I was pretty impressed with the sound. My friend Vinnie who works there saw me playing around with it and said he'd give me $200 off (it retailed for just under $700). After a bit of thought I took him up on it and walked out with a snare drum with more bling than Snoop Dog.

I've tuned it up properly at home and man does this thing sing. It's bright, warm, responsive and cracks wonderfully, though the rim shots leave a bit to be desired. It only has triple flanged hoops on it, so I'm thinking about swapping them out for some die casts instead. Anyway, here's what you all want:

I love the hammering:

Seems like you got a bargain for $500...

I wanted to go to Melbourne's clearance this weekend, but ended up heading to Wangaratta to watch John Scofield, alas, maybe I'll go next year if it happens again.

Congrats man, I've been watching that same snare on e-bay for 6 mos now. Keep wanting one, but have to pay off the last 2 snares I bought first..LOL. $200 is a steal, I haven't found one for under $330.

Congrats again.

I have seen them on eBay for 330 to 350. Did you say you got it for 200 or 200 off?

Beautiful drum though!!!

Post some sound clips if possible!

Mike

It was 500 in total, but that's in Australian Dollars, and for a snare drum like that to be 500 bucks is damn good deal in my opinion. Though I'm fully aware of how much cheaper things are in the US, it makes me cry on a regular basis.

Thanks man, yeah I just realised my point and shoot has a macro function so I decided to try it out, turned out pretty well! Though I don't think you could get a bad photo of that drum.

I'll try to get some clips of it up soon
