Puresound. There's some other good brands as well but I think you'll find most drummers on this forum will recommend these.....at least based on the posts I've read when doing research on snare wires for myself. Puresound has a lot of different lines so talk with a (hopefully knowledgeable) drum guy at your local store and he can steer you in the right direction for what you're after sound-wise.

Hope that helps,

Mike

Yep, they're certainly some of the best. I use them on all my snares, and actually just ordered their 30-strand version. (just to see how much different they sound...they were on sale, so I figured what the hell!)

Cheers!

I have Puresound Blasters (14 in, 20 strand) on my snare (Black Panther 14 x 6) and have really enjoyed the sound. Let's be honest, though, I couldn't pass a Pepsi challenge on snare wires with a million tries. $25 snare wires didn't change the sound as much as changing from one $7 stick to the other $7 stick. I would imagine that 30 strand wires or 42 strand wires (of any brand) compared to 16 or 20 strand wires would be a little more distinct. Having said that, my wires do seem to be a little more articulate and louder than the stock snappy snare wires. I just think it may be psycho-somatic. So who knows...

PS: How's that for an honest review...

The Puresounds are great in that they are guaranteed to not separate at the soldered joints. But the snare wires offered are fine as is.
