Default My new SJC drum kits from the Drum Ferries!!! (Updated pictures!!!!)

Just picked these beautiful kits up from SJC a few days ago, these guys are great to work with and I can't thank them enough for their support!!

Kits are both 22" bass, 12" and 14" toms

Snares are 14x7 maple, 14x8 maple acrylic hybrid.

The green kit is to replace my old SJC kit which was damaged on tour. The blue kit was purchased to make sure I would never have to take the beautiful green kit out lol.

And thanks to Marcia at Stoked! for the custom throne!!

Sorry for the lack of good pictures, my camera really sucks, lol. better pics of the blue kit can be found at www.sjcdrums.com. They didnt put the green kit up for some reason, but if you want you can also see my old kit at www.sjcdrums.com as well, and look for me under the artist section (matt terribile)

Thanks for taking the time to check them out!!

-Matt

oh man I was really upset about losing the other one. We took it on tour south of the location where I normally store them. I left them in our trailer with cases, and there were a lot of rapid humidity changes. The lacquer that was on the kit cracked in a bunch of places since the lacquer was so rigid on the drum as it expended and compressed.really no one's fault, just the nature of the beast I suppose. Anyway, I got in touch with my guys at SJC, and they took those shells back, sanded them down the the veneer which was perfectly fine, and did a new stain job and new hoops for me. Then they made me the blue wrap kit so I have something to take out on the road and not have to worry about problems like that happening. The hybrid snare also cracked, so he had to re-do one of those for me. I had them make me a second snare for the same purpose as the second kit.

I can't stress enough how awesome they were throughout the whole process, and they said if I ever have any problems throughout the life of the drums just to give them a call. I was stoked about how they took care of me.

And thanks for the comments I really appreciate the kind words!

-Matt

I absolutely love that throne - do they have a website or is it just the myspace page?

Such great looking drums!! It's amazing that they refininshed your green kit. I absolutely admire a company that takes care of its customers. Drum Workshop did about the same thing for me back in the mid 90's, except they gave me a whole new kit.

Both of your kits are amazing. I didn't do any searching, but do you have any sound clips?

Well, I'm about as jealous as it gets:P

I'd give my left nut to be endorsed by sjc.

Wow, thanks for all the responses everyone!! Now to address them all :-)

Dom, I play in a band called Who Needs Heroes. Just a local band in my area but I had done a lot of business with SJC before i was endorsed, so they are really taking care of me now. The refinish was basically free, and i was charged a very very good rate for the blue kit but i really cant get into specifics on that. they really worked for me ;-)

Bish: Thanks!! The throne company just has their myspace as this time, I don't believe they have a separate website.

Drum0: I couldn't agree more about how great it is when manufacturers take care of their customers. Thank you for your comments as well!! I do have a few sound clips on my bands website. Featured are the 14x8 hybrid and the green kit (before it was green, lol). No EQ was used on the toms, they are completely raw, on the bass we only tightened up the punch a bit, and on the snare we toned town around 10,000hz to get rid of a little ring that muffling was having trouble with. Clips can b e found here: www.myspace.com/whoneedsheroes

rhydianjlewis: I am a big fan too, that stain really brings out the grain in the veneer.

pimp_my_ride: They are a great group of guys and every experience i have had with them has been awesome. Well worth your left nut :-)

I am wondering about the wood hoops on the toms. Have you noticed a difference in sound versus steel hoops? They look sweet, but I would imagine they would take some getting used too. Especially if you play your toms pretty flat. I would probably hit the hoops more than the drum head.

Are they easier/harder to tune vs steel hoops?

I didn't comment in my earlier post, they did a fantastic job on the wrap. Could you take a picture of the seam? I am curious about how it looks.

I will check out the sound clips when I get home..no My space at work!!

drumr0, I will get a pic of the seam asap for the blue kit. The green kit is a satin stain over veneer, can't see the seam on that one.

As for wood hoops, the drums resonate more and have a much fuller tone. not as much attack but a very nice warmth.

I had to play my toms a bit lower than I usually would and put them at an angle but it was very easy to get used to.

Feel free to ask if you have any more questions and ill get that pic of the seam asap :-)

Those are absolutely MENTAL.
What do you think about the sound of them? I want a set of their Series III preconfigurations, but if they just use keller shells then I may just try building a custom set myself :)

What a beauty! I love the green finish. Could you post a close-up of the maple / acrylic hybrid shell?

hey everyone!! I finally got my camera fixed...turns out the battery just needed charging. I'll be getting the pics you requested up today i promise!! I love the sound of them, and the series 3 kids are a TREMENDOUS value, I got a chance to see one when i was at the factory 2 weeks ago.

As for the 14x7, I don't have a sound clip, but if you listen to any of the Hidden in Plain View recordings (myspace.com/hiddeninplainview) he uses the exact same snare and the sound is absolutely true to that recording. A lot of versatility, you can dig deep for a lot of tone and projection with an ambassador or throw on an HD DRY for a very different dry sound. I'm convinced that spencer was using an HD DRY on the newest hidden in plain view recording.

Big Phill i'll get some close-ups of that for you today and post them as well as the picture of the seam on the blue kit that alex wanted to see.

Thanks for the comments guys!!!

Thanks for taking the close-up pics! Nice drum! I was wondering how the different materials were connected but I can see that clearly now :)

Yeah they cut away a section on the inside of the two maple segments and overlap it with the acrylic. It is glued on the inside i believe, but the bottom bolt of the top lugs and the top bold of the bottom lugs goes through both the wood and acrylic. Pretty sweet :-)
