Default best kick drum practice pad?

are they all pretty much the same quality? are some better than others? if so, which brands are best?

There is no best anything. Someone can like a Pearl Forum more than a Pearl Masters (although its rare).

Remo Practice Pads have a pretty good feel.

Will you be practicing away from your drum kit?

If you're only in need of quieter practice, a bass drum mute would be a much better idea.

yes, practicing at home on practice pads (my kit is at a practice space)
