Default New recording setup, mics, and drum gear! --Big update--

Hey everybody! I've had a busy month, and i finally got things together for a small recording studio here at my house (in my room, of course!)

Here's a list of what i ordered -

6 x Shure SM57 (toms, undersnare, and aux snare)
4 x Rode NT5 condenser (overheads L and R, ride , and hi-hats)
1 x Audix i5 (snare top)
1 x Audix D6 (kick)

M-Audio Firewire 1814 (main interface)
M-Audio ProFire 2626 (using as a A/D converter, since i'm tracking 12 channels)
Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro 16-channel mixer
6 Mic stands (boom, short, etc)
2 Atlona high-grade 15-foot TRS-TRS cable snakes (8 channels each)
14 30-foot XLR cables (sweetwater brand)
12-space equipment rack
6 x Shure drum-mic clamps

All in all, i spent about $4000 on that equipment. I was able to snag a set of Yorkville mid-level studio monitors from my buddy for free, thankfully.

On the drum side of things, i've added a few chinas- i now have a 20", 16" and 12". The two larger ones are Wuhan, the smaller is no-name.
anyway, on to the pictures! I'll have some recordings up soon, i'm still experimenting with Pro-Tools.

here's one of the Rodes, i'm very impressed by their quality and sound.

trying to manage 12 30-foot mic cables was great fun!!! i got it handled though...

and finally, a few pictures of myself, playing :)

let me know what you think...and of course, i'll have recordings on the way soon, and hopefully some videos!!

awesome man, really quite envious!
Not to be rude or nosey, but do you work a lot or are you quite a serious saver? Would just love to know how you are able to dish out such amounts of cash like this - as you look quite young. Honestly dont mean to sound rude, just curious!
My band are cashing out on lots of recording gear soon to record our own album - expect a PM from me sometime with a question or two :P
Cant wait to hear some recordings, hurry up :)

WOW! I still remember seeing the first pictures of these drums. You have a totally professional recording setup now which looks totally great. I can't think of anything else you would need. Really great stuff.

Beautiful setup! Been staring at your pics for several minutes. Almost too nice to hit with sticks!

no worries man :) I spend more money than i should , for sure. I'm fortunate to have a decently paying job as an IT Consultant/network technician, but these last few purchases were made on credit. A good friend of mine has work for me, once i'm good enough with ProTools (overflow from his very busy studio), so i'll easily justify it in short order :)

I'm 23, i've had the kit for a year and a half - this is what it looked like exactly a year ago! LOL....

PM me when you've got any questions :) if i can't answer them, my recording engineer friend certainly can.

and YES! I WILL HAVE RECORDINGS WITHIN THE WEEK! i'm still experimenting with mic placement, and learning this Mackie board.

Damn son! Nice! I like your choices with the Audix mics. I have an I5 for my snare and D6 for bass also - I love em'!

I Hope you realise that you just caused me to nearly choke on my cereal :)

Man that is one sweet setup, something I definitely aspire too! Lovely, lovely Sonors with all those lovely, lovely shiny Zildjians. And all that recording gear...damn! Jealous I am!

Im very very impressed. Firstly of all the new recording equipment and secondly of your accuracy!! Everything looks positioned very exact and tidied-up....speaking of the cables/mics, the set-up.

What do you think about the sound quality of the SM57?

PS: Looking forward to hearing some recordings!!

Karl

Ditto. Nice choices for the mics, too. Have you ever tried an Octavia M012 as a snare-side mic? Sounds like a weird idea, but the results are fantastic!

Try miking the snare from the side only, you'll love it. It sounds like a combo. of top and bottom snare miking with only 1 mic, give it a try.

Wow.
That setup is amazing.
Your band is sweet too.
I just have to say that I am VERY impressed with how clean you made it all. When I run wires for recording I just make sure I watch where I step.
j/p
Really though, quality work.
