Default Mapex Orion 4pc in Transparent Red!

Hey guys. Again, this isn't technically "my" gear, it's for a customer who's picking it up today. Anyway, this seems like a good thread to post these in. Check these Orions out! They were for a customer who went all out. The finish of the drums are Transparent Red. These pics simply don't do the quality of finish justice. Amazing drums!

He bought:

22x18 BD
13x9 Tom
16x16 FT
14x5.5 SD
900 Series Mapex Hardware
20" Zildjian K Custom Ride
16" Zildjian K Custom Dark Crash
18" Zildjian K Custom Dark Crash
14" Zildjian K Custom Hybrid HHs

HOLY SCHNIKEEES!!!! WOW !!!

That's THE best photo of Transparent Red I've ever seen!

Hey Shane, is it true that you can't order a 9x13 in a Saturn?? I know you can in Orion, and you can see it on the site and catalog for the Pro M ....but not the Saturn?

The Hybrid Hats are 13 1/4, not 14 1/4. I think that they should make a 14 1/4 however, for rock and metal applications.

Zildjian now makes a 14 1/4" in the hybrid line.

This finish simply cannot be captured by my cheap camera. It's amazing and that's an under statment! Look at this pic. It was one I didn't use. You can see me in the reflection on the drum!!

1 - Jeff. Yep. No 13x9 In the Saturn Series. Not sure why. A special order ***might*** be possible though for those willing to wait 90-120 days.

2 - Those are indeed 14.25" Hybrid Hats. The 13.25"s are pure magic in my opinion.

Delicious finish, reminds me of that raspberry pie I just had for dinner. :-)
Orions are great sounding and looking drums.

Recorded on one twice with my Rock/Pop band, the kit always impressed me by its warm, fat sound. I`m sure the person who picks it up will have much fun with this set!

That is so ridiculous! Mapex has 2 high-end kits, and you can't get a classic 9x13 size on one of them, but you can on their intermediate kit ?! What a shame!

Mmmmmm looks tasty! Whoever bought that, looks like they're gonna be thoroughly enjoying that kit. Great drums and great cymbals.

That has got to be the most beautiful solid color kit I've seen. Usually I'm bored with solid colors, fades are what I dig, but this finish is spectacular.

And he made a good choice going with those hybrid hats...

The Orion is their premier line, while the Saturn is closer to an 'intermediate' kit; at least in the way that Mapex structures it's hierarchy of drums on the website and form a price standpoint. Also, take into account that the Saturn comes in preconfigured shell packs (as well as custom orders), while the Orion is custom ordered in the sizes the customer wants rather then a preconfigured set (as far as I'm aware at least...).
While I haven't heard Orions in person, I've played Saturns and they are fantastic, especially when you consider the price.

Lovely kit. I like it when you post stuff from your shop JD, it makes me wish I had money! It may be 'Your Gear' but I'm always up for seeing the best of your stock!

Wow, those drums look amazing. And 22, 13, 16 is such a great size combination.

Ozzy, this isn't directed at you, but is in reference to what you stated (so dont' take it the wrong way :) )
Here's the big problem with what you said Ozzy....while I understand what you're talking about, ...then explain why a 9x13 is available in the ProM series then ? And.....AND.....M Birch also??? :(

Orion - available
Saturn - NOPE
Pro M - available
M Birch - available

See what I mean? Saturn is not an intermediate kit...Mapex has two high-end lines, ...and while Orion is THE high end,..Saturn is right below. Pro M however, IS IN FACT the intermediate line, and they do have a 9x13 available. It just doesn't make sense at all......

Yeah, it's funny like that. I read your post as saying that the saturns were the high end and orions were the intermediate. I guess there must be good enough demand for the 9x13" in the Pro-M that they can justify having it as an option while there isn't as much demand for it in the saturn series so they don't do it. Maybe?...

Yeah, I should have said (Pro M-MBirch) instead of intermediate,...sorry about that, but ....who knows....just very strange to me...
