...I share your affliction/addiction, call it what you will.

My problem is that rather than sell and buy, I just buy. I figure that if it drives my wife to the point that she wants to leave me, I should end up with at least one or two kits in the settlement.

Very nice drums Zam. They would go great with my Craviotto.

...I have four full DW kits, and a franken kit.

I have the two WMP kits, 24, 16, 13 plus the 18, 14, 12. I have the black oyster 22, 16, 13, and the tiger ash 20, 16, 12. All of the kits have matching snares, with one of the WMP snares being an edge.

The franken kit has a 20x16" DW bass and 13x5" snare, with a pair of 14x14, and 10x8" Sonor 3005 toms.

I keep telling myself that I will not buy anymore drums, but I know how full of bull I am, so I do not believe me.

Very Cool,

I almost bought a Gretsch Catalina Jazz today at GC. It was on sale for 450, and I was so tempted.

Called my wife and actually had the B@LLS to ask her if I could buy it. She said "Are you F@#$ING KIDDING ME!". Mind you, my wife hardly ever cusses, let alone using an F Bomb!

So, I told her "Of course I was kidding. I would never ask for a kit right after I bought my DW. I was just trying to make her laugh!"

Well, I wasn't totally kidding.

I left with only a snare head.

How do you like your WMPs?

Mendozart, that is classic.

I would never put myself in a position where I would have to give her half of my kits!!!!

Plus, my wife is a keeper.

My first wife was a mess of a person, but this time, I found the right one.

Exactly, give in to the fact that you're an addict - the first step to (an unwanted) recovery is admitting that you have a problem.

It's sick....sick I say! I was parousing eBay the day after I got this kit home...looking for that "one that got away".

Help me...

OMG,

I did that too!!!!

What the hell is wrong with us Zam??? I was out on eBay looking at kits the very same night I brought home my new Dub.

Zam, seriously, for you, is it at all the "Thrill of the Hunt". Man, I love finding that perfect kit with an amazing deal. I can search for WEEKS or MONTHS without having a problem. I almost get bummed after the purchase.

Are you like that too??? I mean I love my new kit so much, but I loved the hunt too.

Mike

Hah! Too funny.

I've given in...I need to build a small warehouse in the backyard and fill it w/ one of every brand. I swear I'd play every single one of 'em too.

It's a blessing and a curse to have so much great gear on the market. I'll either be castrated or be permanently locked out of my eBay account - I hope it never comes down to having to make that choice, man.

I know.

I have said, I will get one Sonor Delite, My DW, a Gretsch Custom, Yamie Nouveau, and a Pearl Reference.

We will see how that goes through the years. Then we can be like gmrakich.

We all just want to be him I guess.

Love the finish! So dark and mysterious, yet I still can see the grain and texture of the wood. I too have grown from the super comfy 4pc set up to the 5 piece with my new saturn kit and i'm still getting used to that one extra rack tom. (i'll get to posting pics of it sometime soon). My daily drum porn dose has been fulfilled by your kit, probably enough to last me the week even :)

Hey Greg?

I hope you're saving me a charter membership slot on your new web site.

Guys,

I feel your pain. I'm sitting on four kits. A 7 piece DW and Yamaha. And a six piece DW and Ludwig. Not to mention the 14 snares. Was 15, but I sold the Brady a couple of days ago.

Then yesterday I spent the day surfing MF for Yammie snares. I need at least two more. :P

I just showed this post to my wife, and now she doesn't think I am that bad!!!!

She said that you were not allowed to be an inspiration to me!!!

You are though. It will take time, but I hope to catch up in kits. I do not think that I will catch up to you and your snares though!!!!

Never say never Mike...

I think Mendozart's site should have a column called 'Jive Talkin' with Steady Freddy" - tips on how to sweet-talk your lady into letting you buy "just one more snare...". it could include self-help pieces on how to spice up your love life AND buy drums in the process.

I think you've got something there Greg...relationship advice for musicians.

Great idea Zam.

Steady is a god among men. I don't even think if I won the lottery that my wife would let me purchase 15 snare. And, it isn't like Steady has cheap snares!!! He has the cream of the crop snares!!!

Man, this thread is getting good!!!

Very nice new kit....and I will have to agree with you as my DWs are the best sounding drums with the widest tuning range I have ever played as well. Maples shells just sound so warm and resonant to me.

congrats on the new drums and the finish and really "purty"...very cool color and finish.

I am telling you that it was great.

She had no idea that there were others worse than me. Made her appreciate me a whole lot more.

She had no idea that it has made me want to compete with these guys. Remember, he who dies with the most drums, wins!

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black Zam??!!!

You are as bad is me. I just admit my problems!! LOL

Lets see, Zambizzi does 6 kits in 2 years = 3 kits per year or a new kit every 4 months.
Mikei does 8 kits in 3 years = 2.667 kits per year or a new kit every 4.5 months.

You are a bit worse (or better, depending on our opinions or our wives') than me by actual, tangible measurables.

That means you will die with the most drums if I don't start spending, and fast!!

What size jacket do you wear!!!

If any kids are reading this, we're talking about "toy" tranquilizers and straight jackets.

Maybe I should start my own DW thread...Hmm...

That is a great looking set man!

I was a four piece player for about 7 years. Take a look at the attached pic and see if this type of setup might help with that "extra tom".

Have fun!

My wife would say I'm worse, and she's always right...right?

I'm definitely weary, you might have me here. I don't know where I'd put any new kits at this point and who wants to spend drum money on a drum warehouse?

Wow, great finish ya got there!

I have tried that setup and have found that it's just too crowded next to the hats, for me. I actually had the same setup, see here (old kit):

http://drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26923

The balance between my feet and rump took precedence over having an extra tom, which is why I went to a 4pc. prior to buying this new kit. I didn't care for having to reach so far for an extra floor tom either...but it was nice to have the extra possibilities.

Look through that thread, I tried nearly everything!

Great kit man!

Here is where I am now...sort of centered everything and it has a great flow. I will undoubtedly be a four piece man down the road though...

WOW Zambizzi,...nice pick-up!!

I'm impressed with the sound of 10-12-16 tom combo. I currently play a 10-12-16 and I'm not 100% totally happy with the smoothness in transition of the 12-16 ...but for some reasoin,....YOUR recording sounds very natural. Now, granted, my kit is a Pacific Birch,..and yours is a DW Maple, so that probably has a big difference in play....but....maybe that combo DOES sound pretty damn good! I'm leaning toward a 10-13-16 still, but....yours sounds really nice. It makes me think now that that combo IS possible to sound really REALLY good!

NICE KIT BUD!! :)

I was never a big fan of the sound of DW drums...until now. Those toms sound really good. That 10" tom really has some balls and the tone from all of them is really sweet. I agree with the above statement that sometimes going from a 12" to a 16" tom sounds too far apart when you have the 10" tom in the mix. I went with a 10/13/16 for that reason and it sounds better, but the 13" doesn't have quite the punch of the 10" tom (Yamaha MCA's), so I just ordered a 12x9 tom. By the sound of yours, I should be happy. I'm actually playing a 4 piece kit now anyway minus the 10" tom, so I'll be happy with the addition of the 12x9 either way. I'll keep the 13" around though just in case I need a bigger tom sound than the 12" can give me. Anyway, I digress. Great kit both in looks and sound. Congrats!

Thanks guys. It wasn't easy to blend the three toms, it took some tuning, re-tuning, and yet more tuning to get it where they were mostly evenly matched.

I tuned the 12" a bit lower than it wanted to be...but it still sings and matches up nicely w/ the 10". The 16" is tuned just above its rumble point.

The snare...well, I'm still not entirely thrilled w/ it I guess. I've been playing a Black Beauty for about 6 mo. and am just spoiled by it's awesome sound.

Here's a recording of Dios Mio! w/ me and the guitar player from last night. I reverted back to a 4pc. using the 12" and 16" toms...you can hear how closely they're tuned (they almost sound like the same drum on the recording!) I'm using the Black Beauty (though it could stand to be tuned soon).

After going from a 20", 14", 12" setup, I can see these drums are too big and loud for the room and I need to do more dampening to the ceiling and walls.

So, I told her "Of course I was kidding. I would never ask for a kit right after I bought my DW. I was just trying to make her laugh!"

Well, I wasn't totally kidding.

I left with only a snare head.
That's a great story haha!

I bet she believed you were "just kidding" too right?!?

My wife can smell the drum shop on me.

I move and change stuff around a lot, so anything new usually gets lost in the shuffle....and having mostly one color helps too.....

Great looking kit Zam, here's to hoping you can enjoy it for a year at least!

I predict in 2 to 3 weeks, Mikei has a Gretsch Catalina Jazz kit because he really needs it for just the right sound in his other new band.

Don't let your wife see this post.
Just skip over it.

My wife insists on escorting me there, most times...

Well now...let's not look that far into the future. I hear there's a madman in Montebello who does magic with wood...it may be my only way out of this vicious cycle! :)
