Default I'm officially in the Ludwig clan

I'm have always wanted to own a ludwig with ludalloy shell whatever it's a Acrolite or Supraphonic (or both) and in april I sold my boat so I had little money spared for my good deal. I was lurking eBay for some times now for bargain on an Acro, unfornately I missed a deal on ebay Canada 3 weeks ago so I didn't discourage myself and last minute bidded on a dirty & rusted Acrolite on eBay U.S. last week which I won.

Now the bad part is that snare a probably seen many stick and many bad weather including hurricane Katrina (the seller is from Lafayette, Louisiana). I got the snare for 52$ and the shipping to Canada was 25$ which isn't that bad. I knew I would have a long moment cleaning that baby but I never thought it would take that long (about 6 hours) but at the end it was worthwhile, I gave a second live to this "legend".

To proove it happened...

That box arrived to my door this morning.

Very dirty & rusty (in two words "bad shape")

Closer look - it was rusty all inside out the hoops - lug - tension rods - throw-off.

Now after a hard & good clean up with many products and greasing lugs & thow-off, here's the result which leave me satisfied. I think it give back that snare all its glory.

With it's good friends for couple of hours

Closer look of its friends which help it to regain some pride.

Now as for the sound of this Acrobaby, well found out yourself because that snare is the snare that every drummer should at least own in their arsenal. Warm crack (just like the one found on girls), sensitive without overtone just nice warm harmonics pleasant to the ear. I understand now why I always hear that Acrolite is very versatile because they are lighweight but heavy in presence (rimshot).

I'm Happy !

Sweet deal. A little "elbow" grease. I knew from pictures 2, 3, 4 that the drum was gonna be a winner. I've seen drums in much worse shape. For $77, a very nice snare.

Nice to see it looking so good. Did it take 6 hours?

Nice Job, she certainly came to life. I own the exact snare, (still have a little cleaning left to do on mine) and I share your sentiment, is a beautiful sounding drum.

Thank's I've notice it had potential on eBay picture but never thought the cleaning process would be so long.

Yes it took 6 hours. I had to clean everything, scrub & rub the hoops two times with steelwool & rust removing product (just one hoop take about an hour more or less), clean every tension rods & lugs to make them shine again, giving "bubble" bath to the shell (it was very very dirty outside & inside which couldn't be seen on the pics). The I applied a layer of Nevr-dull which has to be rubbed with dry cotton clothe for the shiny look.

Thank's Pete, that why I said in your snare collection thread that I was jealous of you owning two of my dream snares, obviously the Brady and also the Acrolite. Take example out of me and take some time to finish cleaning yours its worthwhile and bring back the Acro all its glory.

Mine has the serial numer which make it born after 1980 but before 1984. Also my Acrolite badge it is round point which make my hoops being 2mm instead of 1.6mm.
People have to notice that there's two Ludwig B/O badge one is pin point (1969-70 to 1979 and the round point (1979 - 1984).

Nice job cleaning up the Acro!

It's a great drum.
I still love mine--got it in '75, and it still sounds great.

And....... Welcome to the Family.

I always heard people saying how great they are but I never thought they were as great and sounding perfect.
