Default New Evans heads on my DW kit.

The heads sound good. A nice round warm sound with decent volume. Not quite as loud as the single or double ply ECs but adaquet. The kick is punchey and, not as boomy as the PS3. Not as loud either. It blends well with the other heads though.

I drug out my 6 X 14 Edge that I hadn't played for a long time. It had an Aquarian coated Focus X batter head over a snare side head with the factory DW wires. After a few songs. (I jam along with CDs using Vic Firth isolation head phones.) I found myself wondering why I couldn't hear the snare very well. I'd been playing a Black Beauty SS with factory heads and wires, and had no problem hearing that beast.

Ringy snares used to bug me a little and, I got into the Evans Genera dry heads, ST drys and, the Focus X heads. Now I want the snare to be wide open. I still like the Evans reverse power dot though. Coated Ambasadors seem to go on my snares more often than not these days.

So, I pulled the Focus X head and mounted a coated Ambassador. Oh boy, that woke it up. Sounded great.

Anyway, I thought I'd give my impression of this combo. A lot of guys on the board gave it very high marks and I thought it was time to give the G2s/G1s a try. I'm glad I did. Pretty cool.

Good job Steady. I have Evans on all of my drums other than the bass drum reso. I'm sure you will find them more than adequate.

Unless I missed it, what combo did you use on the drums? I don't think you really said.

The heads went on my beater kit. The natural maple one. I haven't messed with the VLT kit miuch. I thinking about selling this one so new heads might be a plus. I figured most dudes know what G2s and G1s are.

I think you're right. I've had this horrible cold on and off for like two months. Me and the wife keep pasing it back and forth. Ah, the point being my focus is not what it could be.

The kit had EC1s over the Evans Resonants. Before that EC2s over the same resos. I like the EC heads, but they have a very agressive sound. (the clear ones) I wanted to go for a little mellower sound, but not too much.

I got this kit used off ebay. It came with Pinstrips over factory resos. Didn't care for them much, They were a little beat up and I was just geting back into it after a very long lay off.

Then I tried:

Clear Performance IIs over Clasic Clears. Sounded kinda like the pins. Doh!!!
Clear Studio Xs over Clasic Clears. Durability was an issue.
Coated Response IIs over Classic Clears. Didn't bring out the best shell sound IMHO. The drums seemed choked or too muffled. I dunno, I just didn't like them. They were shory lived.

Then I went with the Evans EC heads.

Sorry to hear about that cold, Freddy! I had it and I was miserable! I had gigs to play and all. I was coughing so hard I was lterally getting dizzy just driving home!

On the subject - Pinstripes really are bad head choice for the DW toms - I know I tried 'em and they didn't last long!

Default Update.

I've had the G2s on my drums for about a month now and they have held up really well. I've got around 24 hours of hard playing on them and they hardly show any signs of wear.

These heads sound really great and have proven to be super durable.
