Default new Emad Head review

so i broke the stock head that came on my mapex m-birch bassdrum
and i decided that i'd try an Evans EMAD 22 inch head

so i love the sound nice and thumpy but not too short
and some ppl complain about the black rings buzzing or comming off but niether have happened yet ( but i've only had the head a week)

so the only problem is that the reso head that came with the kit is the very opisite of the EMAD (sound wise reso is bright bright and ringy EMAD is warm and Short) so they don't sound quite right to me

i'll try and post pictures of the set and the head

any suggestions on pictue posting sites (like photobucket)

I know exactly what you mean about using a stock reso with an emad. Here's my cheap, removable, repositionable, and reusable solution.
Go to the hardware store and buy a $5 roll of 1.5" wide camper shell mounting foam tape. Put a foot long strip on the inside of the reso - behind the logo is a good starting point. Wind the tension up just a bit (I stop when the head gets nice & resonant) & go boom. If it's a little too bright still, add another strip.
This works very well on my Sonor 3003s w/ coated emads & smooth white resos.
Just for grins, try tightening the batter a little more than you would normally. You might be surprised at the results..
best - bodinski

ps - I use photobucket w/ no problems..

I used an EMAD as the resonant head on my old Premier 22". Didn't take long until the little badge came off the damping ring, then the ring started to disintegrate. (No, i don't abuse them and they were transported everywhere in cases)

In the end i kept the head but opened up the port and snapped a 6" Holz in there. A lot neater.

I was wondering what to put on my new 20" Mapex, and was considering EMAD, but once bitten, twice shy i guess. I went for a Remo Powersonic batter & coated Ambassador Resonant. Only used it at a gig earlier this week, but i like the sound so far.
