Default The perfect head for me

I've been experimenting with heads as usual, and I think I have maybe got the sound I was looking for.
I always liked the Aquarian Clear Studio X heads, but sometimes they still had a little bit of "boxiness" to the sound.
What I have done is this: I got a wallpaper trim knife, and very carefully lifted a small piece of the white dampening ring that is secured to the underside of the head.
Once a small piece is lifted, I just pulled and the whole ring came off the head, leaving no residue at all.
The removal of this ring has now opened up the sound (They still have the black printed ring on the top of the head), and they sound like a million bucks!
Due to Aquarian's denser film, they still have a lot of depth and punch, but now have a much nicer open tone to them.
If you do this, just be very carefull, and use just the very tip of a blade to raise a tiny section of the ring, then pull !
Cheers
Phil

Sounds like you could go to their clear heads now since the difference between the studio X and classics was the muffling ring.

Well, there is a difference between their Classic Clears and this "modified" Studio X, in that there is still a screened on black ring on the top of the head, similar to what DW has on their factory heads.
I've compared the two, and the Studio X is still a bit more dampened, which seems to just tone the overtones enough.
Plus, it looks cooler with the black ring too!....lol
cheers
