Default Chris Brien's new Gretsch Renown

Hi Everyone,

I was just updating a website and thought I'd share these with you. This isnt my kit, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

It belongs to Chris Brien, Australian drummer now based in Hong Kong.

Not sure what exact specs are, but I will find out next time I talk to Chris.

More details about Chris Brien can be found at http://www.chrisbrien.com

He is endorsed by Gretsch drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Gibraltar Hardware, Latin Percussion, and Vic Firth drumsticks.

Cool! My drum teacher just bought one at Musikmesse last week. He loves them, good quality and that typical Gretsch sound.
But a general question about Renowns, USA Customs etc.: Why is the inside of the shells grey? Is it an extra ply...but of what? Or is it laquered?
I`ve never seen a particular reason why Gretsch does that.

Anyway, very nice drums!!

It's called a silver sealer, it protects the wood and prevents warping.

Thanks a lot! What is this silver sealer made from? Is the inside of the shell just "laquered" with this protection?

thanks very much,

Karl

Its a type of paint Karl and its formula is supposedly a secret.

It looks to me like 10, 12, toms, 14 hanging and 18 floor tom, and he has the 8 inch on a separate stand next to the bass drum. Very interesting.

The renown kits are totally sweet, and rival kits in a much higher price range. Love the silver sparkle too. Definitely a setup I'd enjoy playing.

Chris is a great guy and a phenomenal player!

I cant believe he hasnt been on any Modern Drummer festival shows, especially since he has pioneered many techniques that more famous players are now using.

Damo: I totally agree with you, Chris is an amazing guy, and I have been so lucky to have him as a friend and drum teacher mentor for the past few years... even if he does live over there in HK now. Chris has taught me to see outside the square, and do things thats not considered normal. He has helped me find different ways I can work around the restrictions associated with my Cerebral Palsy.

His books and DVDs have had rave reviews in Modern Drummer, so I hope the festivals are on their way.

Aydee: I am Chris' web guy, so first you can start by checking out his official site at http://www.chrisbrien.com

Then, you could check out the wide range of videos of Chris on Youtube. They can be found here

Chris is also on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/chrisbrien
Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Nine pedals and two feet... looks like we're gonna have an evolutionary problem here :D Nice kit! I like the pedal-controlled mini snare drum

The world's first three legged drummer!! =0 I figure he has to have one considering the amount of pedals!

Cool looking set with a big vocabulary and a near ambidextrous feel to it.

Wow what a crazy setup! My favorite part is that 8inch foot snare. It would be fun to come up with some crazzzzzy linear patterns on this kit.

Ide love to see some of this guys playing he seriously has to have independence like a mofo.

I checked out his youtube vids. Some of the lessons are pretty sweet! I like the one on the 5 and 9 stroke rolls. The way he conveys what the rudiments mean in terms of being able to express yourself make a lot of sense.
