Default Sound proofing

My drum set is in the master bedroom, and above the family room. It's actually the best place in the house to have my set, but I want to reduce the noise that travels downstairs. I don't need to isolate the whole playing area, so building a practice room isn't really feasible or economical. Does anybody have any ideas on how I might reduce the sound? I have toyed with the idea of building my own drum riser in the bedroom that would more or less sit on stilts with a lot of foam rubber underneath, and a lot of insulation between the floor of the riser and the bedroom floor. Any ideas or thoughts as to the effectiveness of this little project?
