Default Signed Stuff

Hi guys,

Just had a thought. Why don't we all talk about things that we've got signed or autographed by the rich and famous?

I personally have the autographs of Chad Smith, Dave Grohl, The Darkness, Derren Brown, Billy Talent and Taking Back Sunday.

You guys in the U.S and elsewhere probably wont know a few of those. But there you go!

So who's marks have you got then?

Adam x

One of my cd's was signed by the artist who is (no more than) a local celebrity, but the best part of it is that I actually performed with him the night he signed it.

I don't have many, but it was great getting the few I do have.

A few members of Skankin' Pickle signed one of their posters for me. That was the first show I ever went to.

John Spencer and Christina Martinez signed a Boss Hog album for me. Christina told me she likes to sign her name with a devil's tail, and that she did.

The Shins signed their first CD, which was recorded in their basement prior to their major label debut.

Jerry Only and Dr. Chud signed a sweatshirt at the Misfits show. That night I gave Jerry a ride on my shoulders. Unfortunately the autographs are no longer legible on that shirt.

Amon Tobin signed an album for me.

I think that's all of them.

It's a fun hobby that usually doesn't cost anything, especially if the autograph is just going on a piece of paper or an item that you already own.

Nick Mason........VERY COOL ,MFB !!

I have a few things from over the years

Drum Heads : Cindy Blackman,Eric Singer and Rod Morgenstein.

Posters : Charlie Adams,Dave Weckl and Zoro.

Pictures : Chester Thompson,Carmine Appice,Bobby Rock,Kenny Arronoff,Alan White,A.J. Pero,Dennis Chambers,Sonny Emory,Ed Thigpen and Vinnie.

I also have Vinnie Appice and Eddie Bayers signatures on regular paper. I have a Stewart Copeland signed towel from an Animal Logic concert that a friend got for me years ago.

I had the pleasure of meeting them all except Eddie Bayers,Cindy Blackman,Eric Singer and Stewart Copeland. I've attended many clinics over the years since 1984 and I enjoyed all of them very much. I always loved meeting drummers and had been pretty calm and cool but I met Vinnie at a clinic in Nashville and was completely intimidated. I must have looked like an idiot but he was very nice. He was so cool and his playing was amazing!!!

I'll have to scan it, but I have an autograph that Alan Dawson gave me when I was about 14. I got to see him in clinic and then with Clark Terry. I had a pair of autographed sticks but sadly they got misplaced.

The only signed item I have is a drum head signed by the members of Caedmon's Call, one of my favorite contemporary Christian Bands, signed at an event where we opened up for them. Great people, Todd Bragg is a great drummer and for those of you who like "our other drums" Garrett Buell is fantastic.

Thats it.

Dogbreath, if you DIDN'T get all the great folks you meet to sign stuff I would think you were crazy...well maybe you are but not for getting the autographs.

I am very fortunate that I get to meet all of these great people. The only two who seemed a bit hesitant were Dave Weckl and Ed Shaughnessy. It was because I always ask for the drummers to just sign their name without writing "To Thomas." The reason that some people don't like doing that is that it's much easier to sell something as a collectable item if it just has the drummer's name on it, and even though I would never sell anything, these guys have probably seen plenty of stuff that they have signed making someone else money on eBay. Dave Weckl insisted on putting my name on it, which is cool (the guy was doing me a favor and I wasn't going to be a jerk about it). Ed Shaughnessy gave me a funny look when I asked him to just sign his name, but Bermuda happened to be right there and he said, "Ed, he's cool." Ed smiled, I got my signature, and Bermuda became the coolest guy I know.

Well...

I may not have as many autographs of drummers like DogBreath has(who does?), but I got a fair share of others:

1.) Carl Palmer signed my copy of - The Drummer: 100 Years Of Rhythmic Power And Invention. On his picture on page 85. I met him at his November ' 06 show at the Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis, MD. Wow! It was an honor!! :-)

2.) John Christ has been my best friend since 1976, and when he joined Samhain/Danzig in ' 85, I was privy to many opportunities of getting his "John" Hancock on just about anything. But the ones I cherish most are the VERY personalized and signed copy of his Flesh Caffeine CD and Danzig II: Lucifuge CD. And about a half dozen guitar picks(his own - all signed). And best of all...his friendship!! :-)

3.) 2 photographs of John and Ted Nugent posing together with guitars in hand, signed by both, when JC did an interview with him around 1994, for RIP Magazine. AWESOME PICS, man!!

4.) A personalized and signed copy of Frank Marinos' RealLIVE CD.

5.) A Marine Corps hat signed by all the guys from Candlebox.

6.) A personalized CD by Orange Sky, their "Upstairs" CD. An awesome Hard Rock/Raggae band out of Trinadad and Tobago. Who, coincidently, is managed by Phil Eharts'(Kansas drummer)management company. Saw these guys 'bout 2 years ago, and they were fabulous. Met them after the show and they were just SO down-to-earth and personable! Their drummer, Obasi Springer, is just a monster! Check 'em out on their MySpace page. GREAT buncha' guys! :-)

7.) A golf hat signed by Tom Watson and Gary McCord.

8.) A golf ball signed by Nick Price and Jeff Sluman.

9.) And finally...A daily pairings sheet(Sunday) from last years' LPGA Championship, signed by, none other than, the greatest female golfer of all time, Annika Sorenstam!

Wheww...There may be more, but I think you can agree...That's enuff!!

I'm winded...as I'm sure are you! ;-)

I know the feeling. Next week, I'm going to be shedding with Mylious Johnson, Kevin Higuchi, Jimmie Adams, and Big Thomas McCree! I can't wait! I'll feel like a little sissy drummer though because they are all heavy hitters with insane chops. I don't know how I'm gunna keep up... any advice?:)

You should definitely work something out so that you can drum with some of those guys. How awesome would that be! Drumming with thest best of the best!

We all sure have alot of stuff signed! I think getting things signed by people that inspire us is great. Of course there is a huge industry for selling autographs. There are loads of websites that sell them, but in the end its the experience of meeting the band or performer or whatever and getting their signature yourself that is the real experience. Saying that...its great to buy some autographs on eBay or wherever if you're not fortunate enough to meet people :p
