Default I Need a Change From EMAD....EQ4?

I have been a 22" Clear EMAD user for a long time, I use it on a Mapex M Birch kit. I have also used the Coated EMAD and the EMAD 2 and never liked those at all. To be honest, I got used to using the EMAD because it was easy for me to tune up and get to playing. Lately I have been looking for a better sound out of my bass drum and I am considering the Evans EQ4 Clear. I like to play a lot of styles but I mainly play hard rock/heavy metal but I like to funk out as well. I like a punchy bass drum sound with pretty quick response off head. If you have used the EQ4 please let me know what you think. Thanks.

I've used the EQ4 on the last few kits I've had and I love it. It's versatile for alot of different styles. I'd definitely recommend it.

I just took the EMAD off my kit and put on a coated PS3 I had lying around. I like it, I think. I may just have to get a coated amb reso though instead of the factory (shit) ported reso I have on now.

Hey fourstringdrum thanks for the input. I heard one on a Gretsch maple bass drum and it sounded great with no muffling. I think I read somewhere that you are currently using an EMAD on your kit. Which do you prefer and what wood type are your shells?

I just switched from an EMAD, which I had been using on my Mapex Pro-M for the last couple of years, to an Aquarian Superkick II. I liked the EMAD, but I was looking for a punchier sound with more low end. The Superkick II was just what I was looking for. It has a tighter, punchier sound than the EMAD and it still has very good low end.

I agree. This is the only non-Evans head I use. I tried the EMAD for awhile, but a friend of mine had and Aquarian SK II and I realized that as much as I love all the other Evans heads I use, they just couldn't compete with the fantastic punch and low end of the SK II. The SK II's feel better too. They have a tighter, bouncier rebound without having to crank the head very tight. The EMAD just felt like my beater was diving into mashed potatoes.

I think EQ1s are nice. I have one on my Gretsch 26" kick.
