hoefully we will still hear about him once he get's out of his teens....the problem with these young talented drummers (or artists in general) is that they gain their popularity due to their talent at their young age, but once they get older, they get into the flow of the adult community and if they don't manage this transtion in terms of marketing, then their name can just fade gently

Umm...Hey Y'all, you know... he's only 14 yrs. old! Why do you even mention anything about him gettin' tired? What were you doing at 14? This kid, he is still a kid ya know, is AMAZING!! He's a future superstar of percussion, guys and gals! You keep an eye AND ear on this guy 'cause in about 10 years, maybe less, everybody's gonna be wanting him. You keep it up, Eloy! And Play On! ;-)

Anyone that talks crap about this 14 year olds playing is just plain jelous. The indedendence he showed w/his left foot on the block w/the 3-2 clave was amazing. There are pros w/25 plus years of playing, my favorite Gregg Bissontte as well, that may not be able to do that. Groove schmoove. True Im a fan of Bissonette, Steve Smith and Rod Morgenstein. Guys w/chops and great feel and groove. But give the kid a break. Because he is just that. A KID. He showed great "drum solo" chops along w/great independance. If hes not your cup of tea, still give credit where credit is due.
If it was Thomas Lang or Marco Minnimen that did that solo it would have been all the rave. Because it was an unknown, people tear him apart and compare him to people hes not. Hes Eloy. End of story.

Great stuff. I don't see the point in flaming the guy for the lack of musicality; he's in his early teens for Christ's sake! It's easy to practice and perform technical aspects of music at a young age, but musicality requires years of band experiece and maturity of personality. What I see here is a great foundation for a musical player. He'll get there in five to ten years, I'm sure.

And i don't hear Eloy doing any grooving like ya see Greb doing. He's just busting out his licks. When a few of my friends and family so him on the dvd, first thing they said was,

"Where's the groove?"
I find it amusing that your family and friends didnt say "This kids got chops, independence, great double bass skills (for any age) and is very, very advanced in his 14 short years of life". They just went straight to "Wheres the groove?" Thats pretty narrow minded. HE'S 14! Its all oppinion, but I would guess he plays better at 14 than 75% of the people on here. Doesnt mean you have to like him. Just like the crap thrown Neil Pearts way. Just give credit where credit is due and stop being jelous.

Yeah. Imagine a ten-year-old kid throwing basketballs from half court, nailing every single throw straight through the hoop. Now, imagine a horde of bastards whining: "He's got no eye for the game... and he's too short for NBA! He sucks."

I saw him playing in MD2005 DVD and felt his technique is awesome. Very fast & beautiful strokes, great 4-way coordination especially that clave stuff, and astonishing bass drum playing. I loved his samba groove, started in 6/8 and then moved smoothly to 4/4 feel.
I guess he still need to learn more how to build up his solo. The last minutes of his solo was not well-organized, especially cymbals. Jon Willis, the winner of over-18 category, was much better from this perspective. But he is still 14y/o and I think he can do it.

Yea, that's true slinger! Seems strange, huh?

Should be able to search the 'net' to find out what he's been up to, though.

Thanks for posting about Eloy...

Peace!

Hey Michael,
Found his website, but my Portuguese isn't really up to par.

http://www.eloycasagrande.com.br/port/index.htm

I'm sure we'll be hearing from this "kid" in a few years.

Later

Interesting to see how Royster and Eloy have evolved.

I wish his site was in English. Dang. I've only seen a few older videos of him (Modern Drummer). I'll soon check out those YouTube links.
