I've never seen anybody do that with a djembe. Very original, very cool. How does it sound?

how awsome is that hardware combined with the 'old' djembe :-). That really is a fusion that I would not ever think of. I think it is fun to play, but might bore after a day or two...

...and you've actually got two different beater sounds on it as well. Have you experimented with closed tones using the other beater as a muffler?

Great point, I have experimented with that on my standard kick with the double pedal, makes things interesting.

That doesnt damage the head does it? Because i know you shouldnt use sticks on hand drums (doesnt mean you cant) because it wears down the head real quick.

It doesn't damage the head if you let the beaters rebound off the head. The Remo djembe head is equivalent to a Fiberskyn.

People have been hitting hide heads on drums with sticks for thousands of years. Only the last 60 or so have they been hitting plastic heads, which also break and deform if hit too hard.

Deathmetal conga: (love that name!) It sounds very interesting I am using the felt side mostly it almost has like a vintage bass drum sound. I would like to get a 16" and see what happens there. I am sure it would be pretty cool. The rebound is pretty nuts. Kind of took me a minute to find the right feel, if you hit it and dampen it buzzes, real neat.

frank002 Haven't gotten bored yet!!!

Wavelength Haven't even thought off using the other beater in that matter but I will try it, great idea. Love your drumming as well!

I have a sound clip from my phone but the quality is terrible and it took me a minute to close the XXXXXXXXXXXit here ya go.
