Default DW Drumheads

I've been using evans G2's for years now. I love them, they're great but I kinda wanna change. I really like the look of the DW FUSION FELLSATZ (clear with the white ring.) I think they're made by remo but i'm not sure. I've found a set online for a bit less than the G2's...worth it?

They are Remo, I actually gave my DW heads away today along with all my Evans Heads (mostly New) I am using all Aquarian TC coated now and couldn't be happier.
If you like those heads take a look at the Aquarian Studio -X clears same concept but much better head in my opinion. But again its all personal taste.

Yes, The DW heads are made by Remo and are supposedly the Ambassador weight film with a crimped collar.

I had them as stock heads and they were probably the best STOCK head ive played on a drum set. But when i slapped on some real remo ambassadors (coated) the sound was much better with the remo's

Are the DW's coated/clear? That is, a clear head with a coated ring? The Studio-X's may be the same thing, but make sure you're going for tone, not looks.

DW just changed the 'design' of the coating recently too.

It used to be clear head with coated ring about .5-1" wide, but now it has a (looks like) wider ring that is 'broken' in 4 spots.

What that does other than change the look I have no idea.

It's still a clear Ambassador, with the coated areas.

Remo offers their heads in a crimped collar version as well.

Aquarian was supposed to be the supplier of DW's heads way back when (straight from RB), and they (DW) did have the Aquarian clear Studio X heads on their (DW's) drums for a while....hmmmm similarity in design?.....then Remo pulled out the big guns or something and DW went with them.

The Aquarian Studio X head will do what the design was intended to do better than the Remo.

The coating on the Remo is more for looks if you ask me.

That little strip of coating isn't gonna do anything discernible IMO.

But, if you like the look, and they get the sound you want, that's all that matters really.

They definitely won't sound like the G2's you've been using, or be as durable, but it's a sound change you're after, so go for it.
