They're great, especially if you want to play with that rebound approach that Dave explains on his Evolution DVD. They differ quite a lot from his original stick in feeling. Both are good, but for different techniques.

I've started playing them and love them.

I know when they FIRST first came out, the older (maroon) colored sticks were entirely painted, including the tip.. which left maroon marks on the heads and such.

from what I see now, besides the nylon version, the wood-tipped ones are not painted and are just plain wood. anyone with these kind ever have issues with the shoulder or shank of the stick leaving marks on cymbals and stuff?

I think the orangish Weckl sticks have a great feel to them. If you get sweaty hands you'll need to put tape on them or lightly sand off some of that slick finish. A friend of mine likes them but won't use them because they fly out of his hands due to the finish.

Never tried the dark ones but I can see where they leave paint marks on your cymbals. I've got a pair of Zildjain Triloc Gurtu (or something like that) sticks that are brown with yellow grips and a notch for your thumb and finger. These are super fast sticks but they do leave brown stick marks on cymbals.
