Default Double Bass Drum Pedals

What should I look for in purchasing a double pedal?
Are there particular brands that I should avoid?
Anything I should try to keep in mind when trying to do a bass drum roll with my feet?

I play in a concert band that often doesn't have enough percussionists to cover all the main percussive parts which sometimes requires me to play set despite bass drum parts having rolls. I've been toying with the idea of purchasing a double pedal since for many pieces I play under these circumstances there is no high hat parts in the piece.

Going to try some out tonight and tomorrow. Looking at either one from:
http://www.vexdrums.com/pedals.htm
for $100 or from craigslist:
"I have a Tama double kick pedal for sale. I bought it for $250 five years ago. It is still in mint condition and I am asking $100 for it."

I'm just a little uncertain due to inexperience with drum set and no experience with double pedals.

We have several members here who use the Vex. And for the money, they say it's not a bad pedal. A 5 year old Tama "that cost $250 then" is probably an Iron Cobra. Not "my" pedal of choice, but a very popular pedal. If money is your big concern/limitation, either will do the trick. You can always do more research, play more pedals and "splash more cash" at a later point in time.
